The building that also houses the pro shop, offices and the club’s Tannery Bar and Grill was fully involved and flames had broken through the roof when firefighters arrived after responding to an alarm that came in at 2 a.m. An EMS was requested for one injured firefighter. A water main break may have hindered efforts to extinguish the blaze, leading to the roof’s collapse, but the fire was still out by dawn.
A fire at the DuBois (Pa.) Country Club in northwestern Pennsylvania early on the morning of Monday, February 24 heavily damaged the building that houses the club’s banquet facility, offices and Tannery Bar and Grill, according to reports from local news outlets.
The Courier Express of DuBois reported that DuBois City firefighters responded to an alarm that came in around 2 a.m. on the morning of the 24th, and found the building to be fully involved, with flames that had broken through the roof, by the time they arrived.
WJAC Channel 6 News of Johnstown, Pa., reported that an EMS was requested for one injured firefighter as a result of the fire.
The Associated Press reported that a state police fire marshal was trying to determine the cause of the fire, which was put out by dawn, with crews then remaining on the scene to assess damage and clean up as part of their investigation.
GantDaily.com, a news website for the region, reported that upon arriving at the scene, fire crews encountered a “heavy” structure fire, but that crews were evacuated prior to the roof’s collapse.
GantDaily.com also reported that according to fire officials, there was reportedly a water main break that may have affected available water pressure when trying to extinguish the blaze. The nearby Tannery Dam reservoir was used as an additional water source, GantDaily.com reported, and additional fire units were called in from the nearby West Sandy and Oklahoma fire departments.
DuBois CC, located 80 miles northeast of Pittsburgh, is open to the public but also offers memberships. The club’s golf course opened in 1909, and the club’s website says its 6,500-sq. ft. clubhouse includes a golf shop in addition to the Tannery Bar & Grill and a 250-seat banquet facility. The club also has a 175-seat, open-air pavilion adjacent to its heated pool that it says can be used for golf tournaments, outdoor weddings, picnics or other outdoor events. Reports on the fire did not indicate if this facility incurred any damage.
Separately, the club’s website says that its Wedding Reception facility can accommodate over 300 guests, with a ballroom enclosed with windows on three of four walls overlooking the golf course, and also featuring a covered patio and deck.
