After FSM Redevelopment Partners backed out of the purchase of the Fort Smith, Ark., club, plans to rezone and renovate the property have been withdrawn.
The planned expansion of the Fianna Hills Country Club in Fort Smith, Ark., is dead in the water after city directors failed to bring up a rezoning request that was filed several weeks ago by the developer, the Fort Smith-based 5 News Online reported.
The issue appeared on the city directors’ agenda, but was never brought up for discussion. Since filing the rezoning request, developer Lance Beaty has withdrawn his plans to improve the club, bringing the future of the club into uncertainty, 5 News reported.
Current owners of the club have not said what their next step will be. Fianna Hills has been losing money for several years, 5 News reported.
FSM Redevelopment Partners had planned to buy the country club and triple its size from 27,000 sq. ft. to 83,550 sq. ft. The redevelopment would have required a new zoning classification, which has not been brought up by city officials, 5 News reported.
The group notified the club it was pulling out of the potential purchase, 5 News reported.
The club will operate on a normal basis and held a business meeting last month to review club operations, according to a letter sent to club members more than a month ago, 5 News reported.
