The first phase of the project will include construction of a 6,300-sq. ft. resort-style pool area that is expected to open in summer 2018. Phase two, which will begin in November, will include a new wellness center, youth room, grille room, board room, golf shop and administrative offices.
Construction crews recently began work on phase one of a multimillion-dollar clubhouse renovation and expansion project at the Topeka (Kan.) Country Club.
C&RB reported on plans for the project in August 2016.
Phase one includes demolition of the club’s existing pool and patio and construction of a new 6,300-sq. ft. resort-style pool area. Work on phase two, which includes expansion and renovation of the clubhouse, is expected to begin this November. When complete, the improvements will touch upon dining, banquet facilities, fitness, golf shop, locker rooms, and day-to-day operations.
The new resort-style pool will feature a beach entry on the south end, a submerged bench for relaxing with friends and family on the north end, lap lanes and interactive water features for all ages to enjoy. A new outdoor stage is also being constructed in the patio area for outdoor concerts and movie nights. The expanded pool deck and patio area will allow the club to host pool-side weddings, banquets and concerts with seating for up to 250 guests. The new pool area is expected to be completed by summer 2018.
Phase two of the renovation and expansion will include a new Wellness Center featuring free weights, an array of Life Fitness equipment, spin bikes, a group exercise room and Titleist Performance Institute technology to help members improve their on-course performance. Adjacent to the Wellness Center, a new Youth Room will help keep children entertained with the latest in gaming and technology.
Crews will completely renovate and expand the club’s lounge and Grille Room dining areas. The new Grille Room will feature floor-to-ceiling windows with views of the golf course. A new private Board Room will also be added for meetings and small functions. Finally, the Golf Shop, administrative offices and bag storage area will all be expanded. Phase two construction is expected to be completed by the fall of 2018.
“Golf and social activities used to be the primary influencers for joining a country club,” said Clay Meininger, President/COO. “Today, health, wellness and fitness are overarching characteristics of current and future clubs. Our renovation and expansion will not only increase our health and fitness offerings, but also upgrade every aspect of club life. We’re excited to have this project in motion.”
The original clubhouse at Topeka Country Club was built in 1950 and has undergone a number of smaller renovations.
To celebrate the clubhouse renovation and expansion project, the Topeka Country Club has unveiled new membership options including sports/social and dining memberships.
