After more than 20 years of ownership by a group of four partners, the Elkhorn, Wis., property, which features a 27-hole golf course known for being open as soon as the weather will allow, has been bought by Nehang Anand, a Chicago-area businessman who has partial interests in other Wisconsin resort properties.
After more than 20 years of ownership by a group of four partners, Evergreen Country Club in Elkhorn, Wis., a 27-hole golf course known for being open as soon as the elements allow, has a new owner, Wisconsin.golf reported.
The buyer is Nehang Anand, a Chicago-area businessman who also has a partial interest in both the Par 5 Resort in Mishicot, Wis. (the former Fox Hills Golf Resort), and in the Par 4 Resort and Foxfire Golf Club in Waupaca, Wis., Wisconsin.golf reported.
While Anand is a partial owner of those properties, “this is a sole ownership here,” Bill Rogers, General Manager at Evergreen CC for more than 20 years and a 35-year employee, told Wisconsin.golf.
The sale, which closed on March 8th, “is going to be good because everything’s going to be different,” Rogers added. Evergreen has already opened for the season, though it closed once briefly due to snow, but Rogers said the staff is extremely busy planning new menus, getting new ownership paperwork in order and preparing for the season, Wisconsin.golf reported.
Anand will be involved “but it’s not a hands-on business,” said Rogers, who is staying on, Wisconsin.golfreported.
While Rogers said he could not comment on the sales price, he said one report claiming it was $2.4 million was not correct, Wisconsin.golf reported. According to state real estate transfer records, the sales price of the golf course and personal property included in the transaction totaled $3.2 million.
Evergreen is known for outings and for being open when other courses are not, Wisconsin.golf reported. It is not technically in the Lake Geneva market, Rogers said, but it is just 10 miles away from the high-end courses there and benefits from its more affordable, and accessible, tee times.
Being known for being open in all kinds of weather doesn’t hurt, either, Wisconsin.golf noted.
“I’ve got [golfers] with their own cordless drills [for putting tees in frozen ground] and leaf blowers,” Rogers told Wisconsin.golf. He had golfers teeing off on March 13th, even as they waited for the last of the lingering snow to melt away.
Like most course operators, Rogers is hoping for big things in 2022 after COVID-19 spurred strong play the last two seasons, Wisconsin.golf reported.
“Yeah, the crazy bump the first year and even more the second year, and we’re expecting that to continue,” he said. “Between the gas (price) and the war, [those] are the only things slowing us down right now.”
Evergreen CC’s golf course was built in 1973 and designed by Ken Killian and Dick Nugent. Rogers was the club’s Golf Course Superintendent for 10 years before becoming General Manager in 2000.
