The $1 million project at the club in Farmingdale, N.J. was delayed by winter conditions, but work on 11 holes are targeted for completion by mid-April. Installation on the remaining holes will be set for the fall/winter of 2015-16.
Eagle Oaks Golf & Country Club, in Farmingdale, N.J. began the first phase of a $1 million irrigation system renovation and installation in December 2014, the club reports. Work continued until late January of 2015 before extended cold temperatures and snowfall postponed the project, but then resumed in mid-March.
The club now plans to proceed with a maximum of one hole closed at a time, with each hole then being playable immediately upon completion of the work. Eagle Oaks hopes that this 11-hole phase will be completed by the end of April, weather permitting, so members can then hit the prime golfing season without disruption, while beginning to experience the benefits of a state-of-the-art water delivery system.
Eagle Oaks then hopes to begin the installation of the new system on the remaining seven holes in the fall/winter of 2015-16.
The new system was designed by HydroDesigns, Inc., based in Frederick, Md., working directly with the club’s Golf Course Superintendent, Patrick H. Husby. It will utilize Rain Bird Central Control and sprinkler heads, as well as the Rain Bird IC communication system, to provide precise, individual sprinkler head control and troubleshooting capabilities.
High-density polyethylene (HDPE) piping was selected for both mainlines, as well as for fairway, green, and tee lateral piping. The piping was selected for its durability and strength, which will require minimal repair in the future.
The project is being installed by Tanto Irrigation, which has extensive experience in HDPE handling and installation.
