Diane Schmaler has pleaded guilty to a charge of interstate transportation of stolen money after issuing checks to herself from the club without authorization.
Federal prosecutors say a former bookkeeper has pleaded guilty to embezzling from Dorset (Vt.) Field Club where she worked, the Associated Press reported.
Sixty-one-year-old Diane Schmaler pleaded guilty last week to a charge of interstate transportation of stolen money. Court records say Schamaler had been employed as a bookkeeper and manager of finance and administration at the club, paying bills, handling payroll and maintaining the general ledger, the AP reported.
The U.S. attorney’s office says she embezzled tens of thousands of dollars from the club between 2007 and June of 2013, mainly by issuing checks to herself without authorization. She quit in September as an audit was about to start. She has repaid $60,000 to the club, the AP reported.
The exact amount embezzled is still being determined, the AP reported.
