Desert Ridge Resort in Phoenix, Ariz., a JW Marriott property, hopes to capitalize on its amenities by selling memberships in a club that it is launching, to provide access to golf, tennis, spa treatments and the resort’s pools.
According to The Arizona Republic, a three-tier plan has initiation fees that top out at $30,000 for a Platinum membership, with monthly dues of $875.
“A membership of this caliber is not for everyone,” but the prices are in line with other top golf club memberships in the Northeast Valley, said Tim Price, Director of Sales and Marketing at JW Marriott’s Desert Ridge Resort.
The new club, which was launched in March, has drawn a lot of interest from 30,000 direct-mail pieces that were sent to prospective members who live in the area full- or part-time. That mailing has yielded 12 memberships so far, Price said.
Steve Hart, Desert Ridge’s General Manager, said that other Marriott resorts, including the Camelback Inn, have sold memberships to their golf courses, but none have offered full access to a resort’s wide range of amenities.
“People have been very responsive to it,” Hart said.
All members also earn Marriott Reward Points, room and restaurant discounts, and reciprocal golf privileges at 40 Marriott golf clubs, including the Camelback Country Club, Starr Pass in Tucson, and the Doral in Miami.
