Director of Agronomy Shawn Emerson, Director of Golf Mike Scully and General Manager/Chief Operating Officer Bob Jones from the Scottsdale, Ariz., property teamed with John Deere Financial’s David O’Malley to take the competition that started with over 200 golfers from seven countries.

A team composed of three top managers from Desert Mountain Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.— Director of Agronomy Shawn Emerson, Director of Golf Mike Scully and General Manager/Chief Operating Officer Bob Jones, CCM, CCE—combined with David O’Malley of John Deere Financial to win a two-hole shootout and capture the 27th annual John Deere World Championship, held at the Greenbrier Resort in Sulfur Springs, W.Va.

The World Championship brings golf course maintenance professionals from all over the world together to join their colleagues and John Deere personnel for teambuilding on a course other than their own. This year’s tournament included 208 golfers from seven different countries, with spirited competition during all four flights of the event.

“It was a perfect week for some networking, teamwork and healthy competition as we approach 2014,” said Cory Niehaus, tournament director. “Superintendents and managers from the best courses on Earth joined us, and our Greenbrier hosts were exceptional.”

Jones, the 2012 recipient of The James H. Brewer Award, part of the Excellence in Club Management Awards co-sponsored by the McMahon Group, Inc. and Club & Resort Business, will be profiled in the October 2013 issue of C&RB.
