Officials for the properties in New Castle (Del.) County and Jacksonville, Fla. said they have become a “hot spot” and “the municipal course of choice” under the management firm’s direction.
New Castle (Del.) County and the City of Jacksonville (Fla.) have extended their partnerships with Billy Casper Golf (BCG) to manage Delcastle Golf Course and Bent Creek Golf Course, respectively.
BCG has managed Delcastle GC, in Wilmington, Del., since 2009. The Ed Ault-designed course opened in 1971 and the property also features the Delcastle Learning Center, with a lighted driving range consisting of 40 new, automated tee mats and two large grass tees. The club also has a renovated mini-golf facility and a clubhouse with The Delcastle Restaurant is ideal for social outings, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner in a country club atmosphere.
Since beginning to direct the Delcastle operation, BCG has instituted these successful initiatives:
- An “Independence Membership” program featuring unlimited golf, discount guest fees and merchandise, and preferred rates at six nearby courses.
- Development of the county’s largest “ladies league,” with 115 members and a bi-weekly Women on Course event series that has hosted 200 women for golf and networking activities. The 2014 “Delcastle Junior League” also welcomed 40 juniors in its first year, leading to the creation of men’s and senior’s leagues.
- Significant bunker renovation and tree removal projects, as well as new maintenance equipment, a state-of-the-art irrigation system and energy-efficient pump station (to be installed later this year).
- A new PowerTee and Range Express system, to enhance the appeal of the driving range.
“Delcastle Golf Course is the hot spot for all things golf in the greater Wilmington area,” said Robert Merrill, Program Manager of the Department of Special Services for New Castle County, in announcing the lease extension. “We are excited about the future, as the Billy Casper Golf team is continuously improving every facet of the facility and operation.”
Bent Creek GC has been under BCG management since 2005, and over that time has seen cart path, bunker and tee box renovations, as well as practice-area lighting improvements, that have contributed to a record number of rounds played. “Champion Cards” and “Legend Cards” have been rewarding frequent golfers with free rounds, unlimited range balls and discounts on golf instruction and merchandise, and special events like “Wednesday Night Scrambles,” “The Super 9 Special” and “Night Golf” have each been drawing hundreds of players.
In addition, more than 500 FootGolf rounds have been played at Bent Creek since the popular golf-soccer game was introduced at the club last September.
“Bent Creek is the municipal golf course of choice,” said Claire Stine, Parks Finance Manager for the City of Jacksonville. “The Billy Casper Golf team has groomed the course into the best shape ever, and our repeat business is at an all-time high.”
Bent Creek Golf Course was opened in 1989 and features a lighted practice facility with a driving range, putting green and the Bent Creek Golf Academy. The clubhouse contains a pro shop and the 19th Hole Restaurant with a patio bar that serves breakfast and lunch.
