Deerwood Country Club (Jacksonville, Fla.) announced plans for a significant golf course renovation scheduled to begin in October 2026.
“This renovation represents the final step in a $17.6 million capital transformation of the Deerwood club and facilities and reflects our commitment to delivering a premier golf and Member experience,” says Bill Boutwell, President of the Board of Directors. “While we are modernizing key aspects of the course to enhance playability and performance, we are equally focused on preserving the history, character, and traditions that have defined Deerwood for generations.”
The announcement follows the recent completion of the first phase of improvements at Deerwood, which introduced several new amenities already enhancing the member experience. Members are now enjoying a renovated pool complex, refreshed dining venues at Sam’s Place and 1960, and the debut of the club’s new six-hole short course, “The Approach.”
The upcoming golf course renovation will focus on improving course infrastructure, drainage, and bunker design while enhancing both playability and strategic interest for golfers of all skill levels. The vision is to elevate the course while honoring the legacy of Deerwood’s original design, restoring the character and quality that have long defined the club.
The renovation will be led by golf course architect Erik Larsen, who has completed nearly 100 golf course design and renovation projects worldwide.
“Deerwood Country Club has long been a standard bearer of fine country club-living in Jacksonville,” says Larsen. “The club’s recent improvements are vibrant and beautiful. I am especially honored to be engaged to restore the timeless elegance of this tournament-tested golf course. We will fully rebuild underground infrastructure for long-term support of high-quality maintenance and introduce strategic, must-see elements that add surprise and interest throughout the course. With its distinctive, elegant, and challenging stature, Deerwood will further establish itself as a premier championship venue for years to come.”
As investment in the club continues, Deerwood has also announced that initiation fees for new members will increase soon. Prospective members who join prior to that date may secure current initiation rates, creating a limited window for those interested in becoming part of the club ahead of the next phase of improvements.
Deerwood maintains a deliberately limited membership structure designed to preserve accessibility to the golf course and foster the close-knit club that members value. With new amenities now open and a transformative golf course renovation on the horizon, the club expects continued interest from potential members seeking a private club experience in Jacksonville.
