New Jersey mega-resort promotes ‘Time for Nine’ initiative.
Crystal Springs Resort in Hamburg, N.J. has introduced nine-hole rates on two more of its seven layouts, bringing the total number of courses at the 4,000-acre destination an hour outside New York City that are offering reduced-round fees to four.
Guests will now be able to play nine on the 18-hole Black Bear and 27-hole Great Gorge courses, in addition to the Minerals and Cascades courses. Greens fees at Black Bear and Great Gorge will range from $15 to $35.
“Nine-hole rates at both Black Bear and Great Gorge are another example of how serious we are about making golf a better fit with today’s increasingly hectic pace of life,” said Art Walton, Vice President of Golf Operations at Crystal Springs. “Like the game’s ruling bodies and influential golf media, we realize free time is scarce and that blocking out a few hours to play nine can be a practical alternative to 18 holes for seasoned golfers, families and novices.”
Encouraging nine-hole play is one of several initiatives introduced by Crystal Springs to help speed up play and grow the game. Others include family golf on Cascades and Minerals featuring four-person carts and two holes cut on each green (one eight inches in diameter); a ‘Fast Track’ program that guarantees golfers finish in less than four hours; a pay-per-hole playing option; and ‘Swing N Sip for Ladies’.
