Brad Dean, Director of Golf at Crystal Mountain, a golf and ski resort in Thompsonville, Mich., realized a lifelong dream when he opened the 90th PGA Championship at Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Hills, Mich. Dean hit the first ball off the first tee at 7:30 AM on Thursday, August 7, as part of the Championship’s first grouping (with Briny Baird and Alastair Forsyth).
Dean qualified for his first major championship, which also happens to be his first PGA Tour event, with a fifteenth-place finish at the PGA Club Professionals National Championship at Reynolds Plantation (Greensboro, Ga.) in late June. He has played in the Club Professionals National Championship five times. For his “day job,” Dean manages Crystal Mountain’s two championship courses, as well as its retail operations and nationally recognized golf school.
