When Creekside Golf Club’s lead golf professional, Dana Londin, put out the call to help support U.S. troops’ desire to keep up with the game, the response was overwhelming. In three weeks, dozens of members of the South Salem, Ore. golf club had responded by donating everything from putting mats to women’s golf attire to left-handed golf clubs, all to be sent to soldiers deployed in Iraq and provide them with a much-needed diversion.
According to an article in the Mid-Willamette Valley’s Statesman Journal, members of the 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team of the Oregon Army National Guard were on hand at Creekside earlier this month to fill a truck with 20 bags of equipment, including about 10,000 golf balls donated by the club and its members.
The donations will be sent the 3,000 members of the brigade currently serving throughout Iraq.
