#39 The Club at the Dunes in Naples, Fla.
The Wellness Center at The Club at The Dunes is a newly remodeled facility that came online in 2019. Because of how the reopening coincided with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the club only recently entered its first full season of the Center’s operation.
The Club at the Dunes’ Wellness Center is wrapped around centrally located locker rooms and features panoramic views of the property’s tennis courts, resort-style pool and lake. Operated by the Wellness Director and her team of highly trained therapists and trainers, the facility has over 20 weekly classes available in-person, on demand or live on Zoom.
In-person classes have been adapted for the COVID world by being conducted, socially distanced and outdoors, on a covered terrace overlooking the club’s resort pool, which often also hosts water aerobics in the mornings. Given the near-perfect weather in Southwest Florida, this has actually proved to be as equally appealing, if not more so, than the classroom format. All classes are offered at no charge to members.
Two separate massage spaces can be reserved by those who need additional relaxation, and the club’s locker rooms, in addition to all of the standard amenities, feature two state-of-the-art infrared saunas.
Throughout the year, members also find access to a Blue Zones-inspired menu, wellness tips and tricks, and cooking classes that feature the combined expertise of the club’s Wellness Director and Executive Chef together.
For added convenience, the Wellness Center also houses a game room for the kids to use while parents sweat their stress away. The game room features tables for cards, a pool table, shuffleboard and ping pong, in addition to amenities such as coffee, water and snacks.
Wellness as a guiding philosophy doesn’t stay contained to the walls of the Center, however. As a recent award designee of America’s Healthiest Clubs and the Blue Zones Project, wellness has been firmly established as part of the culture at The Club at the Dunes, for staff and members alike.
Moai groups (walking groups) are regularly scheduled to take advantage of the extensive sidewalks throughout the community, and bike racks and water fountains have been installed to further promote moving naturally, and frequently. Gulf of Mexico beach access from the community, the fully staffed resort pool, and the general culture of positivity further reinforce the mental component of wellness that pervades The Club at the Dunes lifestyle.
#40 Lakeside Country Club in Houston, Texas
With a wide-ranging age demographic, Lakeside Country Club’s fitness and wellness program is designed to serve all members, from “Super Seniors” to Juniors.
The club’s fitness facility offers some of the highest-rated Technogym exercise equipment available, the same used by professional athletes and Olympians alike. Lakeside also has one of the highest rates of play for golf in the Houston area, and many of the club’s golfers enjoy using much of the same equipment as the PGA Tour Pros.
With a high-end facility, Lakeside can also cater to its senior membership with age-friendly equipment including recumbent bikes, an upper-body ergometer, stretch tables, Kinesis by Technogym, massage and stretch services, and age-appropriate functional-fitness classes and training.
While providing a high-level training atmosphere, Lakeside CC’s roots are based in a family-style community, and the club’s fitness and wellness staffs welcome all members, to help them get fitter, healthier and happier.
