The full rankings can be viewed HERE; here are profiles of the fitness and wellness facilities and programs from the clubs that were ranked 31 through 35:
#31 The Downtown Club/The Met and Center Club in Houston, Texas
The Downtown Club offers members an experience that is unparalleled in Houston. With two clubs, members can take advantage of their fitness, social, wellness and business needs with an all-in-one membership.
The club includes 10 indoor tennis courts, 5 international squash courts, two massive fitness floors, and a wide range of fitness classes. Each sport has at least one pro on staff who can introduce newcomers to the rules of the game and serve as a liaison for getting new members connected to others.
The club’s wellness initiative encompasses monthly workshops and “lunch-and-learns.” Whether they are new in town looking to meet friends, or just want a night of fun, members can also take advantage of invitations to exclusive events, such as wine tastings, cooking classes, and craft nights
In all of these ways, The Downtown Club strives to provide its members with a home away from home in the Houston community.
#32 Canoe Brook Country Club in Summit, N.J.
During its remodeling and expansion in 2005, Canoe Brook Country Club made the commitment to its membership that the club would be home to a world-class fitness and wellness center. The vision was a place where the members could go to improve their health, as well as their golf and tennis games.
Sparing no expense, the club created a diverse environment in its Performance Center, which houses everything a commercial gym would have and more, with the appearance and layout of a boutique-styled specialized studio. The Center features adequate space, state-of-the-art equipment, a top-tier professional staff, and most importantly the commitment to continue to be the leaders in the industry and create a world-class experience for the Canoe Brook membership.
To provide something for every member, the Center’s well-thought-out layout includes power racks/Olympic platforms; free weights, barbell weights and traditional machines; an array of cardio equipment; a functional training area and studio; a golf simulator room, and a pool and luxurious locker rooms.
Yearly, Canoe Brook continues to build on its commitment with continued investments in personnel and equipment. Recently the club hired Dr. Joseph Peragine, PT, DPT, SCS, as its new Performance Director.
A Doctor of Physical Therapy and board-certified sports specialist, Dr. Peragine is using his well-rounded education to continue to expand Canoe Brook’s fitness and wellness program. He is a certified functional strength coach and one of the top Titleist-certified instructors in the country, qualified for medical, fitness, power and juniors. He recently added racquet fit (tennis) and onBase U (baseball) certifications to his credentials. And he is currently finishing his certification in nutrition counseling, as Canoe Brook plans to add serving healthy, fresh protein shakes in the Performance Center.
Dr. Peragine and the Canoe Brook staff can now address the full range of members’ needs, including getting out of pain, moving better, and improving not only their fitness but also their golf, paddle, and tennis games. Working with the other pros on staff, Dr. Peragine creates a team approach to achieve the goals that each member has set.
As a testament to all that has been put into the Canoe Brook fitness and wellness program, usage of the Performance Center has grown continuously over the years. While 2019 was a record year, 2020 presented its challenges. But once state-imposed restrictions are fully lifted, the club expects to break 2019’s numbers for visits and percentage of membership usage.
#33 Anthem Golf & Country Club in Anthem, Ariz.
Located at the base of Daisy Mountain just north of the Phoenix and Scottsdale Valley, Anthem Country Club offers a wellness experience to meet any member’s needs. With two clubs within two miles of one another within the Anthem CC property, community members can take advantage of two different wellness experiences that include two pool options, seven tennis courts, four pickleball courts, a spa, top personal training professionals, group-fitness classes and much more.
Whether relaxing at the Ironwood pool or soaking in the atmosphere of the Persimmon pool, playing tennis with mountain views, or taking a spin class outdoors, members have to continually remind themselves that they are at home, and not on vacation.
#34 The Quechee Club in Quechee, Vt.
Considered a smaller-in-size facility compared to others in the club industry, the fitness and wellness experience at The Quechee Club packs a big punch. As a four-season lifestyle community, the club’s programming is limitless; it expands beyond the four walls of the studio and extends into Vermont’s impressive outdoor landscape. The Quechee Club is community-centered and the fitness and wellness staff and instructors embrace that focus, to take care of and support the people that make Quechee so special.
Members are invited to participate in fitness classes with unique backdrops, including sunset yoga on the shores of Lake Pinneo, poolside bootcamps or volleyball tournaments, and vigorous walks throughout the miles of trail on property. Year after year, Quechee Club instructors strive to keep classes interesting by utilizing every square inch of the property for fitness settings.
Just as popular as the outdoor experiences are the ones in the studio. Members can expect up to 100 classes on the calendar each month. Ranging from TRX, Pilates, yoga, spin, bootcamps and indoor aqua aerobics, there is truly something to get any body moving.
For those interested in one-on-one experiences with more specific fitness goals, the club’s personal trainers each have a wealth of experience and knowledge and are available to create a custom plan that works for each member.
Hand-in-hand with fitness comes wellness. Beyond physical health, The Quechee Club staff and instructors provide opportunities for the membership to focus on overall wellness—of the mind, body and soul. Classes with a focus on balance and stability are ongoing and Tibetan bowl events occur throughout the year. In addition, members are able to relax and unwind with private on-site massage services: Lomilomi, Reiki, and deep- or soft-tissue are all available.
