Indian Trails GC in Grand Rapids, Mich. will be the first course in the state recognized as “Speedgolf-friendly” as it begins to offer the fitness-oriented alternative to traditional golf and “provide opportunities for outdoor recreation that fit the lifestyle of more visitors,” according to the city’s Parks and Recreation Director. In Ashland, Ohio, Brookside Golf Course will bring back “Let’s Glow Golfing,” which was “a great hit” when first held in 2019 but then postponed by the pandemic.
The Indian Trails Golf Course in Grand Rapids, Mich. has announced that it will become the first golf course in the state to be recognized as a Speedgolf-friendly course by Speedgolf USA, Fox 17 West Michigan of Grand Rapids reported.
Speedgolf is a faster, fitness-oriented alternative to traditional golf that combines golf strokes and running time to create a cumulative score, with golfers running rather than walking or riding in a golf cart, while wearing athletic apparel and using lightweight carry bags for their clubs, Fox 17 reported.
“By adding Speedgolf to our offerings at Indian Trails, we can provide opportunities for outdoor recreation that fit the lifestyle of more visitors,” said David Marquardt, Parks and Recreation Director for the City of Grand Rapids. “I’m excited to expand our commitment to a healthy and active community.”
Craig Kooienga, Indian Trails Greenskeeper, added that Speedgolf will bring in new golfers looking for something quicker than a typical round, Fox 17 reported.
Tee times for Indian Trails’ new Speedgolf offer will be available on Tuesday and Saturday mornings from 6:45 to 7 a.m, Fox 17 reported. Greens fees will be $10 for nine holes and $15 for 18 holes, and a complementary sports drink will be included with the greens fees.
The city of Ashland, Ohio has announced that the “Let’s Glow Golfing!” event will return to the Brookside Golf Course this year on July 30, from 9:30 to 11 p.m, AshlandSource.com reported.
The event is free for area children ages 4-15, and parents and families are also welcome to attend.
Thousands of glow sticks and other dazzling glow-in-the-dark items will light up the golf course, and children will be able to participate in a variety of contests including Footgolf and putting contests, AshlandSource.com reported.
This will be the second time for the event, with the inaugural “Let’s Glow Golfing!” taking place in 2019 before the onset of the pandemic.
“This event was a great hit the first time we held it, and thanks to the work of this year’s planning committee we expect this year’s event to be even more dazzling,” Ashland Mayor Matt Miller said.
“We want our young people and families to experience the many wonderful park and recreation areas that we are blessed to have in our city, and this event gives our children a chance to see our golf course in a very fun and unique way,” Miller added.
The event is open-house style and food and beverages will be provided, AshlandSource.com reported. Attendees are encouraged to wear neon clothing and tennis shoes, and soccer cleats will not be allowed. Attendees do not have to bring golf clubs or additional equipment, which will all be provided by the course.
