Hawk’s Landing CC in Southington, Conn. sold all seats at its banquet hall for its $150/person bash, and also at its Club 19 restaurant for two New Year’s Eve seatings as well as the previous night. Hunter Golf Club, The Tradition Golf Club at Wallingford and Southington CC all also reported strong demand for their holiday celebrations.
Procrastinators hoping to toast 2016 at local country clubs in Connecticut were disappointed to find several area clubs sold out and tickets going fast at others, the Record-Journal of Meriden, Conn. reported.
All 200 seats at the Bella Vista banquet hall at Hawk’s Landing Country Club in Southington, Conn. sold out for New Year’s Eve, the Record-Journal reported, and the club also booked all available seats at its Club 19 restaurant for two New Year’s Eve seatings as well as for the previous night, December 30.
“We’ve sold out every year for the past four to five years,” Events Manager Jamie Pannone told the Record-Journal.
Hawk’s Landing’s restaurant accommodates about 50 diners at a time for its New Year’s seatings, at $69 per couple, the Record-Journal reported. Reservations to the banquet hall are $150 per person and include dinner, appetizers, champagne toast and open bar, with a DJ providing music and entertainment.
“People like us because we’re a ‘rustic chic’ venue,” Pannone told the Record-Journal. “We don’t require a cocktail dress, [so] it can be more casual. We get a lot of the same customers year after year.”
Hunter Golf Club in Meriden, Conn. was also filling up its two New Year’s Eve dinner seatings at its Violi’s restaurant and banquet facility by the afternoon of December 30, an employee told the Record-Journal.
The Tradition Golf Club at Wallingford (Conn.) still had tickets available on December 30 for its New Year’s off-the-menu offerings, the Record-Journal reported, with Service Director John Powell explaining that many regular club members travel over the holiday weekend for college football bowl games and other sporting events.
The Back 9 Restaurant at the Southington (Conn.) Country Club had about 20 to 30 reservations still available on Wednesday night, December 30, the Record-Journal reported, for its offer of appetizers, a buffet dinner, open bar, champagne toast, pizza at midnight and DJ entertainment, for $75/guest.
“I’ve been filling a lot of last-minute [reservations],” Restaurant Manager Michael Calvanese told the Record-Journal. “It will probably fill up.”
Celebrating New Year’s at a country club offers a viable option to guests because the settings offer picturesque views of the golf course, festive camaraderie among members and guests (when the club is open to the public) and reasonable pricing on event packages, the Record-Journal noted.
Country clubs have also become popular entertainment and event centers for members and their families and guests, noted Elizabeth Francis, Executive Director of the Southington (Conn.) Chamber of Commerce. Golf courses with banquet halls or large restaurants and community rooms provide members and guests with more options for celebrating New Year’s Eve, and the occasion also provides a way for the country clubs to showcase their amenities outside of golf.
“It works to [the clubs’] benefit to [have guests] see the many things they have to offer,” Francis told the Record-Journal. “The golf courses have become more entertainment centers and gathering centers for members and families.”
Adults and children are now also going to golf courses to hear music in the summer and “enjoying what they have to offer all year long,” Francis noted.
