Coal Creek GC in Louisville, Colo. suffered pockmarked greens that will need serious repair, with divots being two or three inches deep in some cases, after the hail buried itself in the turf to create a new type of “fried egg lie.” One website compared the hailstorm and resulting damage to “something out of ‘Willy Wonka’.”
What happens when golf ball-sized hail meets a golf course?
The SB Nation website featured photos (https://www.sbnation.com/lookit/2018/6/20/17482722/colorado-hail-golf-course-photos) of large “ball” marks on the Coal Creek Golf Course in Louisville, Colo., after that property and several others in the state were pelted by hail from severe storms on June 19th.
SB Nation compared the hailstorm and resulting damage to “something out of ‘Willy Wonka,’ reporting that Coal Creek’s pockmarked greens will need serious repair, with divots being two or three inches deep into the ground in some cases, after the hail buried itself in the turf to create a new type of “fried egg lie.”
A similar case happened in nearby Aurora, Colo., where the hailstorm caused the Meadow Creek Golf Course to close.
Damage across the state was still being evaluated following the storm, SB Nation reported.
