The Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas has put a $250,000 bow on a record-setting gift to Tarrant County charities this holiday season, according to an article in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
The golf club donated the quarter-million dollars to 81 charities that work with young people, closing out a year in which Colonial Country Club Charities raised a total of $6.6 million.
That total represents a 57 percent increase over last year’s $4.2 million and a 140 percent increase over 2006, pushing the club and its Crowne Plaza Invitational into the top five PGA Tour events in charity giving.
This year’s significant jump was largely due to the Birdies for Charity event, in which 24 non-profit organizations solicited pledges, which were then matched by the tournament sponsors, for every birdie made. This year’s total was $5.3 million, compared with $1.97 million last year.
