The General James Hackler Course at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, S.C. will build a new clubhouse. The ninth hole will be shortened to accommodate the structure. The driving range will be re-grassed and tee boxes restored, as well.
Changes are planned for the General James Hackler Course at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, S.C., The Myrtle Beach Sun News reported. The property is building a new clubhouse that the university will begin work on potentially by May 2024.
The two-floored building will house CCU’s Wall College PGA Golf Management Program as well as other amenities, The Sun News reported. A local publication reported the new center will be called the CCU PGA Academic Learning Center.
The facility will be two stories and will be near the course’s ninth hole, The Sun News reported. The first floor will have the course pro shop and bar and grill that can seat 70 people. The second floor will house the management program, On The Green Magazine reported. Work on the clubhouse project could take 12-14 months.
The Hackler Course will undergo changes as well, The Sun News reported. The ninth hole will be shortened to accommodate the new clubhouse and will be open for play possibly by October. The driving range will also be re-grassed and tee boxes restored.
The project was first approved by the CCU board of trustees in 2021, WMBF News reported at the time. Funding for the project was approved in 2022, according to a Sun News report.
Aside form hosting the CCU team, Hackler has also been the site for a previous PGA event, The Sun News reported. In 2015, the course was the site of the PGA Junior Championship tournament.
The 72-par course is named after James Hackler who served in World War II as a fighter pilot, The Sun News reported. Hackler sat on CCU’s Wall College of Business Administration as a member of the Board of Visitors, and the course was named after him following his death in 2007.
