Grey Oaks Country Club in Naples, Fla. named Don Emery as General Manager. Emery most recently served as President and General Manager of Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge in Orlando. His 32-year private country club career includes serving as General Manager at The Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., and General Manager and Chief Operating Officer at Royal Palm Yacht & Country Club in Boca Raton, Interlachen Country Club in Winter Park, and Key Biscayne Yacht Club in Key Biscayne.
North Ridge Country Club in Fair Oaks, Calif. named Michael Peabody as General Manager. Peabody was previously General Manager at Granite Bay (Calif.) Golf Club.
KemperSports named Kevin Kennedy as General Manager and Craig Falanga as Director of Sales and Marketing at Streamsong Resort in Bowling Green, Fla. Most recently, Kennedy was General Manager at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arlington, Va. Prior to his current role at Streamsong, Falanga served as KemperSports’ regional Sales and Marketing Director. Wianno Club in Osterville, Mass. named Mark Krebs, CCM, as General Manager. Previously, Krebs was Director of Club Operations at The Country Club in Chestnut Hill, Mass. and Clubhouse Manager at Burlingame Country Club in Hillsborough, Calif.
The Springs in Rancho Mirage, Calif. named Jeffrey Schulweis as Club Manager. Schulweis was previously Director of Food and Beverage at Griffin Club Los Angeles.
Naples Grande Beach Resort appointed Elias Assaly as Area Vice President and General Manager. Assaly has more than 30 years of industry experience, including senior leadership roles as Vice President of Operations for both Rosewood Hotels & Resorts and Radisson Hotel Group.
River Hills Golf Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C. named Bobby McCullough as General Manager and Head Golf Professional. McCullough was most recently First Assistant Professional at Grande Dunes Resort Club in Myrtle Beach.
Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in North Plains, Ore. named Lacy Erickson, PGA, as Director of Golf overseeing the Witch Hollow and Ghost Creek golf courses. Erickson was most recently a Golf Professional at Portland Golf Club.
Lakewood Country Club in Dallas, Texas named Craig Liddle, PGA, as Head Professional. Liddle was most recently Liddle Head Golf Professional at Meadowbrook Country Club in Ballwin, Mo.
Bentwinds Country Club in Fuquay-Varina, N.C. named Crystal Fish as President of the Board of Directors. Fish, the club’s first female President, joins General Manager Erin Brooks and Director of Golf Evelyn Walters on the leadership team.
Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Mich. named Brian Corwin as Head Golf Professional. Having been employed full-time outside the golf industry since 1998, Corwin served as Golf Instructor for Brookside Golf and Grill in Gowen, Mich. until recently. He’s also approaching 10 years as coach of Lakeview High School’s boys’ and girls’ golf teams.
Chris Cauthen, Head Golf Professional of Westhaven Golf Club in Franklin, Tenn., has been named “PGA Golf Professional of the Year” by the Tennessee Section of the PGA of America, and the club’s PGA Teaching Professional at The Golf Performance Center at Westhaven, Ben Pellicani, has been named on a “Best Young Teachers in America” list by a national publication.
Up to Par Management appointed Jonathan Cox as Executive Chef at Haverhill (Mass.) Golf & Country Club. Cox began his career in Boston, with an apprenticeship at Lumiere Restaurant. He would go on to work at a variety of inns and ski resorts across the country.
Austin (Minn.) Country Club named Sean Williamson as Executive Chef and Matthew Hunt as Chef de Cuisine. Prior to arriving at Austin Country Club, Williamson served as the Banquet Chef at Terravita Golf & Country Club in Scottsdale, Ariz. Hunt has worked in culinary operations at the Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay, Hyatt Regency Chicago, Royal Palms Scottsdale Arizona, Hyatt Regency Savannah Georgia, and the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort & Country Club in San Antonio, Texas.
Mizner Country Club in Delray Beach, Fla. named Romann Geneus, Food & Beverage Supervisor, as Employee of the Year 2020. “Romann is one of our most respected team members and an outstanding employee,” said Larry Savvides, General Manager and Chief Operating Officer. “He has been with the Club for over 10-years and during his tenure, we have continually marveled at his incredibly outgoing, friendly and compassionate personality.”
San Vicente Golf Resort in Ramona, Calif. named Ben McBride as Golf Course Superintendent. McBride, who will be in charge of grow-in and the preparation for the golf course opening following a comprehensive course renovation, takes over for Pat Shannon, who is retiring.
Mark F. Jordan, the Certified Golf Course Superintendent at Westfield Country Club in Westfield Center, Ohio, was elected to a one-year term as President of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA). He is the 85th president in the association’s history. Jordan served as vice president of the association in 2020 and has been a member of the association’s Board of Directors since 2014. Prior to Westfield CC—where he has served as General Manager, Club Manager, Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent—Jordan had stints as an Assistant Superintendent at Winding Hollow Golf Club in New Albany, Ohio, and Hyde Park Golf and Country Club in Cincinnati.
Other elected officers were Kevin P. Breen, CGCS and Golf Course Superintendent at La Rinconada Country Club in Los Gatos, Calif., as Vice President, and Kevin P. Sunderman, CGCS, Director of Grounds at Isla Del Sol Yacht and Country Club in St. Petersburg, Fla., as Secretary/Treasurer. Board members Jeff L. White, CGCS and Superintendent at Indian Hills Country Club in Mission Hills, Kan.; T.A. Barker, CGCS and Superintendent at Fore Lakes Golf Course in Taylorsville, Utah; and Paul L. Carter, CGCS and Superintendent at Bear Trace at Harrison Bay in Harrison, Tenn., were elected to serve again, while Marc E. Weston, CGCS and Superintendent at Indian Hill Country Club in Newington, Conn., was newly elected to the board.
The Club Foundation announced the 2021 recipients of the LaRocca Executive Scholarship—introduced to provide financial support to club managers interested in both furthering their own professional development as well as helping others achieve their career goals through active mentorship. The 2021 recipients are: Joseph McGuire, CCM (Mentor) and Kathryn Reinhart (Mentee) – Country Club of Maryland in Towson, Md.; James Reisig, CCM (Mentor) and Florentina Enica (Mentee) – Tokeneke Club in Darien Conn.; and Kimberly Wood, CCM (Mentor) and Lori LeBard(Mentee) – El Niguel Country Club in Laguna Niguel, Calif.
The Club Foundation announced the 2021 recipients of the James B. Singerling Scholarship. The purpose of this scholarship is to make it possible for recipients to attend the annual CMAA World Conference and Club Business Expo for the first time as a club management professional. Fairfax Intel named John Scharer as President of the Club Analytics division. A club professional with more than 35 years of experience, Scharer has served as General Manager of the Charlotte City Club for the last 24 years.
The PGA of America has selected PGA Members who will comprise its sixth PGA LEAD class for 2021-’22—created to identify, mentor and progress PGA Members from diverse backgrounds into volunteer leadership positions within Association governance. Atlanta-based club management company Bobby Jones Links has created a new position within the club management industry—Vice President of Culture and Coaching—and tapped Gautam Patankar to fill the spot. Patankar most recently served as Vice President of Operations, but has served as the General Manager of a wide variety of high-end private and semi-private clubs, including The Manor Golf and Country Club as well as Woodmont Golf and Country Club. Additionally, Bobby Jones Links has promoted Joshua Deal and Emzi Wewers to new positions. Deal, a PGA member and current Georgia PGA board member, has been promoted to Vice President of Operations. He previously held positions at notable properties including Grayhawk Golf Club, New Haven Country Club, The Manor Golf and Country Club, and more recently Bobby Jones Links’ own Fox Creek Golf Club and Legacy Golf Links. Wewers has been promoted to the Regional Manager of Operations for the South Carolina region. Prior to being appointed to this position, Wewers held positions such as General Manager, Membership Director, Catering and Food and Beverage Manager at resort and private clubs throughout the Southeast. She will maintain her position as the General Manager at Cobblestone Park Golf Club.
Sipcam Agro USA hired Mark Loos as Territory Manager, Northeast. Loos brings a solid mix of industry and sales experience to the position, having spent 15 years in the golf industry as a Superintendent and then another four years in sales on the manufacturing side at Civitas/Intelligro.
