When John’s Island Club decided to remodel its clubhouse, the goal was to activate the underutilized dining venues on the upper level for day and evening dining with short views to the putting green and long views to the golf course. The remodeling opened the F&B venues to engage the outdoor environment. Features of this remodeling which have been highly successful and well received by the membership include, an overall de-formalization of the building to create a more contemporary vibe while respecting the classic forms and elements of style for which the club is known. Outdoor covered dining terraces and patios were added with folding walls connecting to the indoor seating which are open during peak use. The casual outdoor dining lounge was designed with a modulating louver cover to allow patrons to dine “under the stars” on nice evenings and provide full covered dining opportunities when desired. The results have been an increase in use and an overwhelming positive response from the membership.
