The Port St. Lucie, Fla. resort is expected to close its doors this fall because the property owner is selling the land on which the resort is located. Port St. Lucie mayor Shannon Martin mentioned Altitude International Holdings, Inc. as the new owner in a statement.
Club Med Sandpiper Bay in Port St. Lucie, Fla. is closing, WPBF reported. The riverfront resort is expected to close its doors this fall because the property owner is selling the land on which the Sandpiper Resort is located.
The announcement was made in a letter sent to the city and Tallahassee, WPBF reported.
The letter states in part: In accordance with the Worker Adjustment Retraining and Notification (“WARN”) Act, we are writing to inform you that Holiday Village of Sandpiper, Inc. (The “Company”) will be permanently shutting down its operations at the Sandpiper Bay resort, located at 3500 SE Morningside Boulevard, Port St. Lucie, Fl.34952 (the “Shutdown”). The Shutdown is due to the land owner’s – Sandpiper Resort Properties, Inc.’s – sale of the land on which the Sandpiper Bay resort is built.
The Company thus plans to terminate permanently the employment of all approximately 226 employees currently employed by the Company at the Sandpiper Bay resort. The expected date of the termination of employment of all employees will be September 5, 2022 (or within 14 days beginning on that date). All employees in all positions will be affected. As explained above, the terminations will be permanent, not temporary.
“At this time details of a potential sale of Club Med Sandpiper Bay remain confidential,” Club Med said in a statement. “In the event of a sale, we are committed to our employees and will be providing opportunities for those that may be impacted to find work at other Club Med locations around the world.”
Port St. Lucie mayor Shannon Martin mentioned Altitude International Holdings, Inc. as the new owner in a statement.
“It’s heartbreaking to see Club Med moving its operations out of Port St. Lucie, and our hearts go out to its employees,” Martin wrote. “Club Med Sandpiper Bay’s all-inclusive resort was a one-of-a-kind family destination, and we are proud Club Med called Port St. Lucie home for so long. We look forward to welcoming the new owners, Altitude International Holdings, Inc., which has a 40-year history of developing performance academies and operating in hospitality.”
