However, with over two-thirds of the membership participating in offsite facility-based fitness, the golf-centric membership voted with 80% approval to proceed with a new free-standing Lifestyle Center on a vacant site on the property that was once occupied by a caddy shack.
Nestled comfortably in a half-hidden corner of the golf course next to the first tee boxes, this new 11,000-sq. ft., two-story Boutique Lifestyle Center now provides CCF members with a full range of services offered through much larger facilities. It was important to the members that the new two-story building have a one-story appearance from the croquet courts and golf course. Due to the natural grade on the site, this critical design mandate was achieved, with only a two-story façade on the aquatics side of the building.
Comprehensive and complete, the Lifestyle Center boasts a fitness pool, Cyber Café, Pilates Studio, spa treatment rooms, and men’s and women’s locker rooms, including steam rooms and a dispensary, on its lower level.
Overlooking the Aquatics Complex, golf course and two croquet courts on the upper level, the main fitness room features a large-format, multi-screen monitor that is used for motivational heart-rate monitoring, as well as for creating ambiance in the strength-training space.
The lower-level Cyber Café serves as a retail outlet for the club’s branded products and the spa’s lotions and potions. The spa treatment rooms and relaxation lounge are tucked into a basement level, separated from the active environment created by the Cyber Café.
A sculptural connecting stair was designed with glass railings, open treads and floating stepped light bars overhead, connecting the lower-level Cyber Café to the active fitness floor above. The neutral palette is refreshing, and materials were selected for their ease of cleaning as well as durability.
The use of mirrors facilitates fitness training, expands the spacious fitness floor, and reflects the panoramic window views to the golf course, aquatics complex and croquet court. The building was sited to save a large signature Ficus tree adjacent to the first tee box. The presence of this tree outside the yoga studio brings nature’s soothing ambiance into the studio.
CCF’s new private fitness facility has provided both existing and new members with the ability to maintain an active lifestyle within the comfort, health, and safety of the gated golf course community. The project earned a 2020 Design Excellence Award from the South Florida Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID).
