The Center offers a large variety of cardio equipment that meets nearly everyone’s need and preference, including rowing machines, arc trainers, and free runners, along with standing, seated, and lateral ellipticals, recumbent bikes, spin bikes, and motorized and non-motorized treadmills.
For strength conditioning, the Center offers a full range of free weights and racks, including kettlebells from 10 to 70 lbs., dumbbells from 1 to 100 lbs., and a full supply of barbells and plates. If a member prefers the safety and predictability of a machine, a full line of market- leading Keiser equipment and its pneumatic technology is available.
The Center’s offerings do not stop at just strength and cardio. Mobility, stability and functional movement are also emphasized, with an entire open space dressed out with bands, medicine balls, and balance tools dedicated to stretching and moving in ways that are functional and beneficial to real life.
Keowee Key members also have many opportunities for professional instruction and motivation, through the staff of six personal trainers, each with their own specialization. A private upstairs mezzanine is dedicated to personal training that offers privacy and the availability to use equipment needed for a personalized training session.
Three types of complimentary orientations are made available to members, as well as a complementary group fitness assessment every month. One orientation focuses on the cardio equipment, one on the strength equipment, and the other is an overview of everything The Fitness Center has to offer. The fitness assessment is intended to show members where their current fitness levels are, and allows the staff to direct them to the appropriate class or trainer.
Members can also participate in a large variety of complimentary group classes. Over a dozen highly qualified group class instructors are on staff, and the group class schedule is packed full of 53 classes every week. The classes range from aquatics to spin to weights to yoga, and everything in between.
If a member is unable to make a scheduled class, or just prefers to work out alone, a separate, 625-sq. ft. room equipped with a 120-inch screen, projector, and major sound system is available and can be easily reserved through the Keowee Key website. Members can select any kind of available virtual class and play it right on the large screen that is mounted on the wall.
For members who prefer to work on their fitness goals outdoors, just outside the doors of The Fitness Center is a 2,500-sq. ft. area with padded artificial turf and various types of strength equipment that utilizes one’s body weight. The space is great for outdoor training, group classes, and boot camps, and just off the space is a 0.25-mile walking trail.
The facility also includes an indoor, 25-meter heated lap pool, and on sunny days the roof to the pool enclosure can be opened to enjoy the upstate Carolina weather. The pool is active all week with either lap swimming or many different water-aerobics classes that appeal to all levels.
Elsewhere on the property, Keowee Keey offers 14 lighted tennis courts, including eight Har-Tru clay courts, four Omni grass courts, and two hard courts. In response to the growth in pickleball, Keowee Key now also has 12 lighted pickleball courts. League play and tournaments are big for both tennis and pickleball, and the court areas include five pavilions and three sets of covered bleachers, all suitable for parties and general viewing. The property also includes a racquetball court and a basketball court.
Recognizing that as members live active lifestyles, injuries may happen, Keowee Key also takes treatments and therapies seriously as part of its fitness and wellness operation and programming. The club has partnered with ATI Physical Therapy to house a full-time registered physical therapist who treats only Keowee Key members, using a large private space dedicated for this purpose. Other services include massage and chiropractic therapy, pulsating electromagnetic frequency (PEMF), and sports taping.
