The new Fitness Center provides several advantages, including increased capacity, allowing twice as many members to utilize the space at the same time. It has also freed up the 5,000-sq. ft. space occupied by the original Fitness Center in the main clubhouse so it could be repurposed for larger card rooms and multi-purpose space.
The project modernized and expanded the club’s fitness offerings while also providing members with a new casual, outdoor-dining experience. Sign-ins at the new Fitness Center for September 2020, vs. September 2019, increased 150%.
The club’s new Courtside Café was carefully designed to be consistent with the classical architectural detailing of the existing clubhouse, for a cohesive and unified look but with a new, fresh, contemporary feel. The single-story building it replaced was purely functional as a bathhouse for the pool and an indoor lounge for relaxation between tennis sets.
The new Courtside Café features a display kitchen, poolside dining and increased outdoor lounging areas, with cozy fire tables to extend the use of the facility as the sun sets. TVs can be viewed from many angles, with amenities including ceiling fans, recessed lighting, retractable overhead screens and speakers in the exposed bleached timber joist ceiling. The same ceiling finishes and décor are carried to the outdoor area for a relaxed, consistent look.
In large part because of these enhancements, Audubon CC hit social-membership capacity as of October 2020 and now has a social-membership waitlist. “Year-to-date membership sales [have been] extraordinary, especially in the last few months,” the club reports. “As of August 2020, there had been an increase of 300% in membership sales for the period of September/October 2019 vs. Sept./Oct. 2020.
“Through October 2020, the club sold a total of 53 new memberships, far outpacing any other year in the club’s history,” the club adds. “The month of October alone had 13 membership sales.“
Food-and-beverage sales have also been very strong, even in the midst of COVID-19. In October 2020, revenues from beer, wine, and liquor were up over 100%, compared to the previous October. Food revenue for the same timeframe was up over 70%.
These trends have been consistent since the new Lifestyle Center opened, despite the cancellation of outside events at the Club. “The members are enjoying the freedom this new amenity gives them to be inside and outside,” the club reports. “Typically, they are staying longer and engaging in camaraderie with their friends and family.”
