The clubhouse has been consistently maintained and improved over the past 94 years. Great thoughtfulness has been invested in ensuring that the renovations are perfectly aligned with the antique Tudor style. New and original features exist side-by-side seamlessly, allowing Members and guests to feel as if they have been transported in time.
The clubhouse features three important murals, all of which have been present since the 1927 opening. Frederick Dana Marsh painted the ceiling of the foyer in 1926; the signs of the zodiac are paired with a variety of sports, including some not readily associated with the Club, such as football, aviation, and powerboating.
Marsh’s whimsy is evident in the 1927 mural over the fireplace in the Grille Room. Taking a bird's eye view of the grounds, it is busy with all manner of activities, including a caddie handing a shovel to a golfer in a sand trap.
More serious is the four-wall mural in the Main Dining Room, painted by June and Joseph Platt in 1927. It portrays Detroit's history from the wilderness of Cadillac's time to the industrialized city of the mid-1920s. Tribute to Country Club of Detroit is paid in the depiction of its first clubhouse, located originally on Lake St. Clair.
The Tudor architecture of the clubhouse has been applied to new construction throughout the campus; the clubhouse truly defines the CCD design language.
