The United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) named Chuck Gill, Director of Sports at The Club at Ibis in West Palm Beach, Fla., as President for the 2016-2017 term, effective January 1.
Elected by the membership to a two-year term, the president’s duties include representing USPTA at all industry functions, presiding at all meetings, appointing all committees with the approval of the Board of Directors, and see that the directors and committees perform their respective duties. The president is responsible for working with the Board of Directors and Executive Committee to shape policy and procedures, approve the annual budget and work toward the growth of the association.
“As a long-time USPTA member, it is an honor to be able to serve the association in this capacity,” Gill said. “I’m looking forward to working with the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, national staff and our membership to continue to grow USPTA and continue the organization’s tradition of excellence. With our renewed commitment to professional development, relocating our World Headquarters, and reinforcing our relationships with allied associations we will have an exciting but productive few years ahead of us!”
Gill has an extensive tennis background and a strong history of involvement in the tennis industry. He has served as the Director of Tennis at The Club at Ibis since 1995, and in 2007 he assumed the role of Director of Sports. In his current position, he oversees all aspects of the club’s tennis, fitness, spa and aquatics operations. Gill previously was employed as director of tennis at Boca Raton Resort and Club in Boca Raton, Fla., and director of tennis at Topnotch at Stowe, in Stowe, Vt.
Gill has been an active USPTA member for more than 30 years. He served on the USPTA Florida Division’s board of directors between 1995-2005, including as president from 2002-2003. Nationally, Gill served as Vice President between 2009-2011 and again from 2013-2015, where he served as Chairman of the Convention Committee, the Tournament Committee, and Co-Chair of the Budget and Finance Committee.
The USPTA Elite Professional was named the USPTA Florida Division Professional of the Year in 2002 and 2016, and the Northern New England Pro of the Year in 1986. He was also honored as the Florida Division’s Tester of the Year in 2005, and received two special recognitions for career development by earning more than 90 hours of continuing education credits.
“I can’t think of a better professional to lead our association into the next exciting chapter in our rich history than Chuck Gill,” USPTA CEO John Embree said. “With the relocation of our World Headquarters to Lake Nona, Florida, next year and celebrating our 90th birthday in 2017, Chuck’s leadership will be critical.”
Beyond his duties with USPTA, Gill is also an active USTA volunteer where he serves on the board of directors of the USTA Florida Section and is currently on the USTA National Adult Competition committee. He previously served as member of the USTA National 10-under committee. In 2012 Gill was chosen to join the “USTA National Tennis Center Professional Advisory Staff,” a group of 20 teaching pros who provide their expertise in helping with the US Open fan experience each year in New York.
