The completion of the Fairway One project, which will add 38 guest rooms and is on schedule to open in August, is one of many upgrades underway at the resort, which hopes to have all work done by June 2019, before it hosts the U.S. Open. The resort has also launched the Pebble Beach app to help guests navigate the property.
Plans for centennial celebrations and hosting the U.S. Open in 2019 has kicked Pebble Beach (Calif.) Resorts’ multimillion-dollar expansion and renovation projects into high gear, including the creation of a mobile app, the Monterey (Calif.) Herald reported.
The completion of the high-profile Fairway One project, on schedule to open in August, is one of many upgrades underway at the resort which hopes to have all work done by June 2019, before the U.S. Open comes to town. Pebble Beach last hosted the tournament in 2010, the Herald reported.
In addition, a collaboration with IBM has produced an app embedded with Watson’s Conversation Application Program Interface, which enables visitors to experience Pebble Beach as if they are traveling with a local guide, the Herald reported.
“We have a lot going on between now and 2019 to help keep the resort improving,” said David Stivers, executive vice president, chief administrative officer.
Fairway One, located on the northwest side of the first fairway of Pebble Beach Golf Links, will add 38 guest rooms—30 units in three two-story buildings and eight units in two four-bedroom golf cottages—to the number of accommodations at The Lodge at Pebble Beach, the Herald reported.
“The cottages have 1,000-square-foot living rooms and are perfect for buddy trips, wedding parties or small group outings,” said Stivers.
The accommodations, from guest rooms to four-bedroom cottage suites, will go from $915 to $5,960 a night. All 454 guest rooms at The Lodge, The Inn at Spanish Bay and Casa Palmero will be upgraded along with restorations at the Pebble Beach Golf Links, the Herald reported.
“In all the ocean-view rooms we have expanded window walls and increased deck size which add living space,” said Stivers. “We’ve also upgraded and replaced baths, bedrooms and added air conditioning to all the rooms throughout the resort.”
Across the street from the project, a gas station was recently closed to eventually make way for additional guest parking. Stivers said the petroleum storage tanks on the site have been removed and testing was done to make sure the ground was not contaminated, the Herald reported.
With the upgrades, renovations and expansion occurring at the properties, the Lodge conference center’s renovation plan will not happen until after the U.S. Open, said Stivers. In the meantime it will continue to be used for group functions, player hospitality, as a main banquet room, and conference space, the Herald reported.
The Pebble Beach Co. has also collaborated with IBM and launched the Pebble Beach app to help guests navigate and experience the properties in a different way. Key features of the app include “Virtual Concierge,” which can provide answers to requests; “Tours of 17 Mile Drive,” which allows guests to experience the iconic drive in two curated tours; “Explore the Resort,” which is an interactive resort guide of dining, shopping and scenic options; “Today at Pebble Beach,” which gives guests information about daily events across the resort; and “Alert and Notifications,” where guests can opt to receive information on special food and retail offerings, the Herald reported.
The Pebble Beach app is available in the Apple App Store or Google Play. It covers all Pebble Beach properties and can be accessed and explored from anywhere, though certain real-time features and notifications are only available or applicable if you are at Pebble Beach, the Herald reported.
