The Suffolk, Va. club was originally called Cedar Point Club when it first opened in 1964, but added Country Club in the mid-2000s. The name change represents a “refreshing of our branding and imaging” at the same time the property nears completion of Phase One of $6 million in campus improvements, says President & Chairman Cameron Robinett. New brands are also being introduced for several dining venues and Cedar Point’s swim team and kids club.
Cedar Point Country Club in Suffolk, Va. is rebranding back to its original name, Cedar Point Club, and in the process introducing new brands for several dining venues, its swim team and its kids club.
The club was named Cedar Point Club when it first opened in 1964, but then changed to Cedar Point Country Club in the mid-2000s. “Now our original name will be restored, as we celebrate years of success and feel vigor for new opportunities,” says President & Chairman Cameron Robinett. “As our campus enhancements and facility renovations continue, we are taking this opportunity to refresh our branding and imaging.
“For years, we have been well aware of our beautiful surroundings, both on land and on sea,” Robinett adds. “Our desire is to capture and describe that beauty via our naming and logos.”
Cedar Point is nearing completion of Phase One of $6 million in campus improvements that began in the fall of 2019, Robinett notes, and will include a clubhouse upgrade with a new roof and HVAC system replacement, locker room renovations and new wine and spirit lockers; a new aquatics complex; renovation of the indoor tennis facility; reconstructing all bunkers on the golf course with Capillary Concrete, and repairing/replacing all bridges and bulkheads on the property.
In addition to the renaming of the club, which is being done with “brand consistency [by retaining] the timeless Cedar Tree icon,” these additional new brands are being introduced, Robinett says:
Cedars main dining room. “The Main Dining Room will be a one-word name that exemplifies the beautiful setting that is in full view on the banks of the Nansemond River,” says Robinett. “Combined with the history of the club and its established brand, the nickname Cedars will continue this legacy into our newly renovated facilities.
“Although the restaurant will be referred to by its name, Cedars, the surname “On the Nansemond” will give it identify and panache when seen by guests and newcomers,” Robinett adds.
The Juniper Room at Cedar Point private dining room. “Derived from the scientific name Juniperus Virginiana, Junipers are coniferous trees and in the cedar family that are native to our area,“ Robinett notes.
“Junipers’ impermeable coat protects the embryo when being dispersed, giving a private setting for natural and organic strength,” he adds. “Such will be our private dining room at Cedar Point Club. The Juniper seeds last a long time and can be dispersed long distances over the course of a few years—a perfect way to describe how our members, clients and private event guests can use this room to strengthen their relationships.
“The surname “At Cedar Point” will give it identity with our club and create a sense of stability when seen by our members and their special guests,” Robinett adds. “Oh, and by the way, Juniper berries also make a nice cocktail garnish and is the only ingredient found in all gins. This gives us further reason to celebrate the spirit of spirits.”
Riverwinds aquatics café. “Staying in line with the waterways theme of the new Cedar Point Aquatics Center, Riverwinds will celebrate the beautiful view of the Center as it lies on the banks of the Nansemond River,” Robinett says. “For those members who have been around a while, the wind from this peninsula-shaped bank gives a pleasant calm on even the hottest of days.
“The sail mast of the Riverwinds logo is inclusive of the Cedar Point Club brand,” Robinett adds, “as you’ll notice that the left half of the original logo holds the boat steady as she’s wind-swept through the river. The airy font also gives the sense of tranquility, as our members and their guests can enjoy the paradise side of the Cedar Point Club campus.
“The logo can also be easily adaptable in color, providing complementary images for summer menu items, merchandise, and more,” Robinett notes.
Ironclad Swim Club. “As planned as part of the Aquatics Center development, we will begin formation of our swim team in 2021 with hopes to begin competition in 2022,” Robinett reports.
The name of the swim club, he explains, comes from the area’s connection to the ironclad steam-propelled warship and one of the most famous naval battles in American history that occurred in 1862 as two ironclads, the U.S.S.Monitor and the C.S.S. Virginia (formerly the U.S.S. Merrimack) fought to a draw in the waters near the Cedar Point campus.
Barnacle Cedar Point Kids Club. “Barnacles. The Children’s (Kids) Club at Cedar Point Club will be promoted through our Aquatics Center,” says Robinett. “As we continue our waterways theme through our Aquatics Center, Barnacles provides a fun and colorful way to engage our next generation of Cedar Point Club members.
“Barnacles, by definition, depend on another source for growth and care, attaching themselves in shallow water… as do our children,” Robinett adds.
