The Country Club of Bristol (Tenn.) has selected Northbrook. Ill.-based KemperSports for management services. The 120-year-old semi-private club is the oldest in the state and includes a recently renovated 18-hole golf course. The club, located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, is considered the birthplace of organized golf in the state.
KemperSports will oversee all golf and club operations with a focus on enhancing the member and guest experience at the historic club.
Established in 1894 as a private club, the golf course in its current setting was constructed in 1958 by A.G. McKay and redesigned in 1999, by the Mark McCumber design group. The club is located 110 miles northeast of Knoxville, Tenn., along the Virginia border.
In addition to golf, the family-friendly club includes both indoor and outdoor tennis courts, an outdoor sand volleyball court and a basketball/multipurpose court. The Family Fitness Center, which opened in 2008, includes cardio, fitness and cross training equipment as well as an aerobics exercise room. The clubs’ junior Olympic-sized pool offers a heated zero edge pool with water slide and lazy river.
“As Country Club of Bristol prepares to celebrate its 120th anniversary, we are excited to be working with them to take the property to the next level,” said KemperSports CEO Steve Skinner.
In other management company announcements, Troon will manage the Potomac Shores (Va.) Golf Club, which is scheduled to open in spring 2014.
