Nine fire departments responded to the fire at the Chelsea, Mich., property on August 26, which destroyed the banquet hall. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was called to assist Michigan State Police with the investigation, and was unable to determine the cause, but said there was no evidence of a criminal act.
Nine fire departments battled a blaze at Reddeman Farms Golf Course in Chelsea, Mich., on August 26, and officials have been unable to determine the cause, Michigan Live reported.
Firefighters were dispatched to the fire around 1:25 a.m. and found the banquet hall engulfed in flames. Fire gutted the facility, which hosts weddings and other events. Nobody was injured in the fire, according to Chelsea Fire Chief Rob Arbini, though the building was a total loss, according to a separate report by The Saline (Mich.) Post.
The building housed the banquet hall, pro shop, kitchen, golf courts and thousands of dollars in merchandise. “I can’t even begin to estimate the value lost,” Arbini said.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was called to assist Michigan State Police with the investigation due to their expertise, said ATF spokeswoman Ronnie Dahl.
Investigators determined the fire began in the basement of the clubhouse where golf carts were being stored and charged, Dahl said. The cause is undetermined, and Dahl said there was no evidence of a criminal act, Live reported.
Nine departments, other than the Chelsea Area Fire Authority, helped on scene and with station coverage, Arbini said. Firefighters remained on scene until about 10 a.m., Live reported.
