Carl Frederick (Rick) Schlingmann, III, CCM, who had a distinguished career as a club manager and consultant before becoming a restaurant owner, died on June 14 at his home in Canyon Beach, Ore.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., Schlingmann graduated from Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration, where he also captained the soccer team. After serving as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army, he began his career in club management, serving as Assistant Manager of Seaview Country Club in Absecon, N.J. and General Manager of Lehigh Country Club in Allentown, Pa., before becoming General Manager of Wilmington (Del.) Country Club, a position he held for 20 years. Schlingmann was also instrumental in helping to create the Delaware Club Managers Association, and served a term as that group’s President.
After his retirement from Wilmington CC, Schlingmann continued to consult to clubs in the greater Philadelphia area while also embarking on a second career as a restaurant owner, opening restaurants in North East, Md. and Canyon Beach, Ore.
Schlingmann’s survivors include a son, Carl Robert (Rob) Schlingmann, who is the General Manager of The Apawamis Club in Rye, N.Y.
