The historic Tallahassee, Fla., property, which features an 18-hole, A.W. Tillinghast-designed championship golf course, five tennis courts, dining facilities, fitness center, and locker rooms, will return to private status on March 1, 2016. The club is currently semi-private and narrowly avoided bankruptcy last year.
Capital City Country Club in Tallahassee, Fla., is returning to private status on March 1, 2016. It is currently semi-private.
The property features an 18-hole course designed by A.W. Tillinghast. In addition to a championship golf course, this historic club also comprises a swimming pool, five tennis courts (three hard, two clay), dining and banquet facilities, fitness center, fully equipped locker rooms and golf pro shop.
“It’s a privilege for our company to be associated with Capital City’s membership and this one-of-a-kind property,” said Integrity Golf chief executive officer Gene Garrote, the club’s operator. “We’re excited about the future of this great golf and country club and committed to making Capital City one of Florida’s most desirable golf and leisure destinations.”
Capital City’s roots go back more than 100 years when Tallahassee Country Club was originally organized in 1908 as a small golf course and tennis courts on the grounds of a private estate known as The Grove. Before the end of the 1920s, Capital City grew to nine holes with and a new clubhouse was constructed on the north side of the present 13th hole.
In the mid-to-late 1930s, while under ownership of the City of Tallahassee, Tillinghast was hired to design a championship 18-hole layout. It remained a municipal course until May 1956, when the newly chartered Capital City Country Club, including many of the original Tallahassee Country Club members, assumed control of the club.
Now, just a year from nearly going bankrupt, membership and club revenues continue to grow. Integrity Golf took over Capital City’s club operations last December.
“Ever since Integrity Golf got involved in Capital City, the scope of what they’ve done far exceeds what we ever talked about,” said longtime member and board president Jim Pfeil. “Everybody who comes out here now is impressed. And I’m telling them if you like it now, it’s only getting better. The future is going to be fantastic.”
