Andalusia Country Club in La Quinta, Calif., is building a 15,500-sq. ft. clubhouse for its existing Rees Jones course, which will likely be complete in early 2015. In New Mexico, The Los Alamos County Golf Course is nearing the debut of its new $5.3 million community golf course building in the spring, which was approved as a capital project in 2010.
Andalusia Country Club in La Quinta, Calif., is building a new clubhouse for its existing Rees Jones course, the Palm Springs (Calif.) Desert Sun reported.
The groundbreaking for the new 15,500-sq. ft. clubhouse was last week. Designed by Hart Howerton, the clubhouse will replace the existing pro shop that is in the general clubhouse for the community, the Sun reported.
Among the amenities of the new building will be a full-service golf shop, underground cart storage, men’s and women’s locker rooms, administrative offices and patio dining. Construction should be completed early in 2015, the Sun reported.
“The bottom line is the Drummond Company (an Alabama-based coal mining and processing company and owner of Andalusia) understand that you have to reinvest back into the property,” General Manager John Cummings said.
Like many clubs, Andalusia has also made some changes to its membership requirements to attract new members as all clubs in the desert are struggling with declining membership, the Sun reported.
The Los Alamos County (N.M.) Golf Course is nearing the debut of its new $5.3 million community golf course building with hopes of opening in the spring. Organizers of the project say it is the fruition of a capital project approved in 2010, the Albuquerque (N.M.) Business First reported.
“We’ll be ready to offer a golfing experience that we believe will rival any of the other courses in our geographical area,” golf pro Donnie Torres said. “We should be ready to host golf tournaments with use of the new building just as our golf season gets underway.”
The project was approved by the Los Alamos County Council in 2010 and the former clubhouse was demolished in 2011 with a groundbreaking for the new project last March. Albuquerque’s Studio Southwest Architects was the designer, Business First reported.
Features include storage for a fleet of golf carts, a golf pro shop, small offices and a conference room for staff. There is a large space that can be booked by golfers or the public for tournaments, events or meetings. There will also be a commercial kitchen space along with a dining area, Business First reported.
“The new building takes advantage of spectacular local mountain views, with an outdoor patio space plus a large wrap-around deck overlooking the course,” Torres said.
Los Alamos officials are now seeking proposals from those with an interest in operating food and beverage service at the facility. The old clubhouse previously offered a snack bar and a restaurant, officials said, and they hope to reinstate a similar casual, family-friendly dining atmosphere, Business First reported.
