Campus Commons Golf Course in Sacramento, Calif., has officially reopened. The nine-hole, par-three course, located near Sacramento State University along the American River, had been closed since 2021 due to major infrastructure work by the Army Corps of Engineers. The closure was necessary to accommodate erosion protection and levee expansion, which encroached 65 feet onto the property and rendered the previous layout unplayable.
Originally opened in 1971, Campus Commons has now undergone a full redesign. The latest improvements feature a completely new layout, modernized infrastructure, and fresh sod laid in August. This allowed time for the turf to establish before the spring reopening.
The refreshed course is designed to be accessible and enjoyable for golfers of all ages and skill levels. Early demand has been strong, with tee times fully booked on opening day and the day after. Longtime patrons have noted a more open feel to the new layout and praised the quality of the renovation.
With the reopening, Campus Commons becomes the first new course to debut in Sacramento in 25 years, offering a revived green space for both longtime fans and new visitors to enjoy.
