The City of Mission Viejo recently purchased the course but wants to rename it because it is not associated with the neighboring community of the same name. It is soliciting online submissions for a name “that fits the course, considering [its] location, amenities, typography and other attributes of our community.” A grand-prize winner will receive a $300 package for golf or food-and-beverage privileges. Nominations containing profanity or otherwise deemed inappropriate will be disqualified.
The City of Mission Viejo, Calif. is hosting a community contest to seek the public’s help in renaming the Casta del Sol Golf Course, which it recently purchased.
Because the course is not associated with the neighboring Casta del Sol community, the city wants to rename it and is encouraging online submissions of a name “that fits the golf course – considering the course’s location, amenities, typography and other attributes of our community.”
To enter the contest, the name and other information must be submitted electronically at https://cityofmissionviejo.org/golf-course-naming-contest by 5 p.m. on June 30.
Entrants must be 18 years and older, but the contest is not limited to city residents. Only one entry per individual is permitted. City staff and/or their family members may enter a name for the golf course, but will not be eligible for a prize.
A committee of judges from the City of Mission Viejo will evaluate entries in a blind review based on the name’s relevance to the golf course and the City of Mission Viejo. The committee will select up to twenty names and the city’s Community Services Commission will then choose five finalists. The Mission Viejo City Council will then decide the final golf course name and award a grand prize.
If more than one person submits a name that is chosen as a finalist, only the first person who submitted the name (based on the electronic time stamp from the submission) will be included as a finalist to receive a prize.
The contest rules specify that an entry cannot contain profanity, and that If the contest review committee deems the content of the entry inappropriate, the entry may be disqualified.
The grand-prize winner will receive a golf or food/beverage package valued at $300, choosing from one of two options:
Option 1 – Golf Package
- 4 prime-time full rounds of golf at the golf club for four people
- Use of 2 golf carts
- $100 credit towards food at the golf club restaurant
Option 2 – Food & Beverage Package
- Food and beverages for up to 6 people (valued at $50 per person)
- Prime location on the golf club terrace with fire pit and after-hour access
The other four finalists will receive a $50 gift card for use for a round of golf or for food/beverages at the golf club restaurant or bar.
The winner and finalists may also be featured on the city’s website and in its e-newsletter and other publications.
All five finalists will also be invited to a grand reopening celebration at the club, where the grand prize winner will be announced.
