By-the-glass sales are increasing as diners look for cost-effective ways to try new vinos.
Earlier this year, Wine Enthusiast published an article on the latest wine trends for restaurants. Prominently among them was a noted increase in by-the-glass selections, as an easy way for diners to sample new wines while staying within their budgets.
Natasha Wright, Public Relations and Marketing Manager for Crystal Springs Resort in Hamburg, N.J. notes that guests often order from the resort’s wine-pairing menu for just that reason.
“It’s six wines, each perfectly paired with a different course,” she explains. “They can experience great wine and great food at an amazing value.”
At Wayzata (Minn.) Country Club, Jay Fritzke, Clubhouse Manager, offers all varieties by the glass. But when he puts a few bottles on the menu as specials, they sell quickly, too.
“We will feature three to five different wines at deep discounts, and we sell a lot,” he says. “Specials are a big hit among our members.”
