Exactly one month after two people broke into the Salix, Pa., property, they returned, shattering the front door. Thanks to better security at the property and quick police response time, the burglars got away with only a can of Mountain Dew.
In April, burglars targeted the Windber Country Club in Salix, Pa. One month later to the day, they hit the property again, WeAreCentralPa.com reported.
“It’s pretty brazen, I think, to come back and try it again,” said General Manager Mark Susko. “We tightened up everything internally. We don’t leave cash lying around anywhere. Everything is in safes.”
But that didn’t stop at least two people from coming around 2:30 Monday morning and shattering the front door, WeAreCentralPa.com reported.
“There’s a pre-plan there and they know what they’re doing,” said Kirk Moss, Adams Twp. Police. “We believe they do a little surveillance and check the place out.”
Police responded within minutes, so the burglars only escaped with a can of Mountain Dew, WeAreCentralPa.com reported.
“Definitely what we’re doing internally is working and unfortunately we still end up with the property damage,” said Susko.
Police think the people who broke into the club knew what they were doing, WeAreCentralPa.com reported.
“As we can see by observing the surveillance, there is a lookout vehicle involved, there are radios involved. This is an orchestrated event,” Moss said.
The Sunnehanna Country Club in Johnstown, Pa., was also targeted. Police believe the two are connected. They broke doors and rifled through filing cabinets, but no significant damage was reported. Police hope this gets others to secure their businesses, WeAreCentralPa.com reported.
“Just because you have an alarm system and a video thing doesn’t mean you’re burglary free,” said Moss.
Cambria County Crimestoppers is offering up to a $5,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest, WeAreCentralPa.com reported.
