The milestone for the D.W. Field Golf Course marked “the best year in the history of the golf course,” said the city’s Superintendent of Parks, and was due to improved course conditions and hard work by its staff. “D.W. Field is quickly becoming one of the most popular destinations for golfers on the [Massachusetts] South Shore,” he said.
The city of Brockton, Mass.’s D.W. Field Golf Course generated $1 million in revenue for the first time in 2017, according to a report delivered by Superintendent of Parks Timothy Carpenter the Brockton City Council, The Enterprise of Brockton reported.
“It was the best year in the history of the golf course,” Carpenter said. “From the conditions on the course, to the hard work at the pro shop, our golf course continues to bring people to our city.
“D.W. Field golf continues to improve with each passing year and is quickly becoming one of the most popular destinations for golfers on the [Massachusetts] South Shore,” Carpenter added.
D.W. Field will be offering a youth clinic this summer, Carpenter said in his report, with the city working with Mass Golf to provide The First Tee program again this year for local youth, The Enterprise reported. D.W. Field will also be forming a Junior PGA Team, which would compete against junior teams based out of clubs in nearby communities, including Braintree.
Carpenter added, however, that poor weather at the beginning of the current golf season has dampened sales so far this year.
“Unfortunately, you are at the behest of Mother Nature,” he said.
