The August 19th event is being billed as the adult version of the ‘Drive, Chip & Putt’ junior skills competition, and will have both professional and amateur divisions. An outdoor happy hour, live music and prizes for the best golf outfits and costumes will add to the emphasis on providing a festive and entertaining atmosphere.
Boyne Golf, which operates 10 golf courses spanning three resorts in northern Michigan, has announced the inaugural “Dos Equis Rip, Pitch & Roll” (RPR) golf skills challenge, which will take place at the Boyne Mountain Driving Range in Boyne Falls, Mich. on Friday, August 19 from 4:30 to 8 p.m.
Open to participants 21 and older, the RPR format will be similar to the popular national “Drive, Chip & Putt” junior competition that annually culminates in a visit to Augusta National for finalists.
RPR entrants will compete in three separate disciplines:
- Rip – Participants will hit three drives and receive points for each one that lands in the prescribed driving area
- Pitch – Participants will hit three pitches from three predetermined locations (20 to 60 yards) and receive points based on proximity to hole
- Roll – Participants will hit three putts from three predetermined areas (short, medium and long) and receive points based on proximity to hole
The RPR will feature Professional and Amateur divisions. Professional competitors will be split into men’s and women’s groups and play for a to-be-announced cash purse, while amateurs will compete for prizes in four flights (Men 49 and younger; Men 50 and over; Women 49 and under; Women 50 and older).
The event will take place amid a festive environment, organizers say, that will feature an outdoor Happy Hour on the Boyne Mountain Driving Range, where players can enjoy Dos Equis beers, live music throughout the evening, and receive prizes for best golf outfit / costume, as well as several additional non-golf contests.
“Rip, Pitch & Roll is yet another example of our team’s mission to make golf as entertaining as possible,” says Bernie Friedrich, Boyne Resorts’ Senior Vice President of Golf and Resort sales. “It’s a great opportunity to socialize and enjoy a beautiful late-summer evening while testing your skills in a fun, familiar format.”
Entry fees are $30 for the Professional division and $20 for the Amateur division, with a portion of proceeds benefiting local charities. Each participant also receives one drink ticket, an event gift and entry into drawings for prizes such as Boyne gift cards.
