Over the last three years, Boca West Country Club has dedicated time and energy to refining the club’s player development programs to hone in on the hospitality-first mindset.
This included building upon the success of programs of the past and introducing new programs.

“What we really tried to do is grow our teaching and performance golfer development programs from a hospitality heart,” says Travis Wehrs, PGA, Director of Golf.
This mindset gave way to Coaches Corner, a video series where staff members in the golf department, like Wehrs and Austin Jarchow, PGA, PGA Teaching and Performance Coach, create short videos offering members tips for the golf course and more.
Reaching 2,000 members
Boca West Country Club has over 2,000 golf members and four golf courses.
“It’s a massive property that requires relationships in general,” says Jarchow. “We are always looking for ways to continue that outreach.”

This has come in the form of starting group clinics that reached many untouched areas of the club. The clinics have allowed instructors the time and space to develop relationships with members.
“If we work on hospitality first, the more lessons and clinics naturally happen,” says Wehrs.
The club is currently approaching almost 7,500 private lessons annually, and clinic participation has increased by almost 800%.
“By focusing more on the way we make members feel, it’s exploded our relationship and our business,” adds Wehrs.
This also expanded into the golf department offering club fitting, something that wasn’t offered previously.
Wehrs says this addition wasn’t integrated to sell more golf equipment but rather to create stronger relationships with members.
And it’s working. Jarchow says more social members have joined as golf members because of the programs.
Wehrs, Jarchow and the team didn’t stop here. They decided to take this hospitality-first mindset one step further with the introduction of Coaches Corner.
Putting a face to the program
Two years ago, the club created what they call the Golf Book and the Instruction Book.
All summer long, the golf department works on these two books that, for the entire year, tell members what the clinic is, what time it is, what the cost is, how many people are available to attend and other information.
“Things can get lost in emails,” says Wehrs. “We can email out the clinic schedule, but people won’t see it.”
These books were the club’s solution to this problem.
Building on this idea came Coaches Corner. The club already had positive feedback and momentum from utilizing videos to communicate with members.
Jarchow is currently the star of Coaches Corner, which helps familiarize members with him since he started with Boca West about nine months ago.
He filmed the first six videos, and the rest of the team will be the ones in front of the camera. These videos get sent to members via email and also live on social media channels.
The videos are also played throughout the clubhouse with other in-house content the club has produced.
For content, Jarchow wants to cast a wide net to get members interested in what he is saying, but if they want specific details, they can come in and schedule a lesson.
“The series we are currently putting out is me just working my way through the course,” says Jarchow. “It’s me saying, ‘You want to score better? Let’s make sure we are doing these simple things.’”
Each video walks members through Jarchow’s next shot and his thought process behind what he’s choosing. This was done on purpose to tell more of a story than just be instructional.
Jarchow says many members now come up to him and make comments or crack a joke based on his videos.
“It’s cutting down on the amount of time and individual lessons that I have to create that relationship,” says Jarchow. “There are about 1,886 unique students from September 2025 to September 2026 that go through our player development program, and there are four of us on the team here that do this full-time. This helps cultivate that deeper connection more quickly.”
To Wehrs, this is what Coaches Corner is all about: approachability with the team.
“We want members to feel comfortable coming up and saying, ‘Hey, Austin, I saw you on the video that was great,’” adds Wehrs. “It ties right back into the way we make the members feel.”
The end goal
Jarchow says the golf department’s goal with Coaches Corner is to make sure the entire team has a handful of videos that create the same kind of approachability that Jarchow is experiencing.
“We also all have different styles too,” says Jarchow. “We have different styles of speaking or explaining things and I think it’s important for members to know that whatever I am saying may be different than what someone else on the team has to say.”
Jarchow acknowledges that some members may click better with different staff members.
The filming for Jarchow took about two hours: about 30 minutes of deciding how the workflow is going to go and then just playing the course.
Wehrs and Jarchow think that Coaches Corner could be expanded outside of the golf department and hope to see that in the future.
