City officials have approved investing $377,410 in rebuilding and relocating a shed at the Mentor, Ohio facility this summer, positioning it behind the practice center so golfers stop hitting it. Work is scheduled to be complete by August 31.
City officials are replacing a 50-year-old shed at Black Brook Golf Course & Practice Center in Mentor, Ohio this summer, and moving it to a new location so golfers stop accidentally hitting it, the Willoughby, Ohio News-Herald reported.
City Council recently approved investing $377,140 in a replacement facility, to be erected behind the practice center, the News-Herald reported.
The existing building sits between holes 1 and 2, is only partially heated, is home to nuisance birds, and the tight quarters require that some of the equipment be stored outside, exposed to the elements and would-be vandals, the News-Herald reported.
“It should help speed up play off of the first two holes,” Superintendent Aaron Webb said. “There won’t be a building obstructing a golf shot that ventures over that way. Also, aesthetically, it does give me the ability to make sure the equipment is stored inside.”
Work is scheduled to begin in June and be complete by August 31. The project also will allow upgrades to the practice center, City Manager Ken Filipiak said.
“That will bring electricity to the site, so it will allow more convenience to patrons,” he said, adding that amenities may include golf ball dispensers and vending machines. “Most importantly it will provide a much better and secure facility for our golf course staff to work out of.”
