The public golf course properties, located in Mims, Fla., and Upper Marlboro, Md., will be directed by BCG in maintenance, staffing, activities, merchandising, and financial management.
Billy Casper Golf (BCG) has been selected to manage the public Walkabout Golf Club, an Australian-inspired golf course in Mims, Fla.
Designed by Perry Dye, son of renowned architect Pete Dye, and LPGA Champion Jan Stephenson, Walkabout Golf Club opened in 2003 and features lush playing surfaces, native vegetation and gentle mounding. The 18-hole, 7,146-yard, par-72 layout includes water in play on 13 holes and bunkers guarding undulated greens. For higher handicaps, five sets of tees and generous fairways are available. Walkabout’s No. 1 handicap hole is the 455-yard, par-4 fourth hole with hazards off the tee, woodlands right and a lake that envelops much of the green.
A par-3 19th hole with a green shaped like the continent of Australia is popular for post-round entertainment. A grass driving range, putting and chipping greens, and professional instruction for all ages and abilities are available. The new, 16,000-sq. ft. clubhouse includes a fully-stocked pro shop with the latest in equipment and apparel from top brands. “The Hideaway at Walkabout” is a new Key West-style restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week.
BCG will direct course and property maintenance, staffing and training, clubhouse activities, merchandising, golf instruction, marketing and public relations, special events and financial management.
“Billy Casper Golf is proud to operate Walkabout Golf Club,” said Peter Hill, Chairman and CEO of BCG. “A favorite for its entertaining layout unlike any other course in region, we will inject new programming to further enhance its stellar reputation.”
BCG will also manage the public Lake Presidential Golf Club in Upper Marlboro, Md.
“Lake Presidential is blessed with a fantastic piece of property a stone’s throw from the world’s most powerful city,” says Bill Anthony of Ryko Development, owner of Lake Presidential. “Golfers relish the topography and wild areas which are unrivaled regionally.”
Developed by Landmark Land Company, the 18-hole, par-72, 7,230-yard layout winds its way through wooded terrain and rich, natural expanses. Landing zones are generous off the tee and green complexes require precise approach shots. Five sets of tees, groomed playing surfaces, white-sand bunkers and picturesque streams round out the experience.
Complementing the golf course is “The Institute,” Lake Presidential’s world-class, indoor-outdoor training facility. Home to the TaylorMade Performance Lab—one of only 12 in the world—PGA professionals use the MATT (Motion Analysis Technology by TaylorMade) System for high-speed cameras and motion-capture technology that produces three-dimensional images of golfers’ swings. A short-game practice area features a bunker, large putting green and spacious, all-grass driving range.
The stately, 11,000-sq. ft. clubhouse includes a fully stocked pro shop with the latest in equipment and apparel from top brands. With a banquet hall accommodating 150 guests, Lake Presidential is a popular venue for corporate meetings, weddings and other catered functions. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the grill offers indoor-outdoor dining and majestic panoramic views of the 30-acre Lake Presidential. A complete menu of classic, American favorites, fully stocked bar and friendly wait staff make it a perfect spot for pre- or post-round meals with friends and family.
