BigShots Golf Firestone in Akron, Ohio hosted a media event Dec. 8 in conjunction with its recent soft opening.
The year-round golf and entertainment venue offers 44 heated hitting bays on two floors that provide opportunities for both game-playing and practice sessions. The bays feature TrackMan technology, which allows a golfer to track data such as total distance, carry, height, and ball speed. As a player prepares to hit from the mat, they can adjust the height of the tee to fit the club they are using. Anyone from a golf novice to a seasoned player will find useful features at what is the seventh BigShots location nationwide. The first one opened in 2019.
The facility also boasts Anthem Kitchen and Bar, a full-service bar and restaurant that has TVs set up where patrons can watch games.
There is also space available for private meetings and parties.
BigShots Golf Firestone is partnering with the Raymond C. Firestone Public 9 Golf Course, which is operated by Firestone Country Club. Through this partnership, BigShots will function as the pro shop for Firestone’s Public 9. Anyone wishing to play a round at the Public 9 will pay their green fees at BigShots, where they will be able to warm up in a hitting bay for 15 minutes before heading out to the course.
BigShots Golf was built on the site that once housed Hackers Bar and Grill. The site also included a driving range.
Noting that both BigShots Golf and Firestone are owned by Invited (formerly ClubCorp), BigShots Golf Chief Operating Officer TJ Schier said, “We thought it was a natural amenity here to kind of enhance the public golf experience by turning the driving range and the restaurant into a BigShots Golf.”
“Our tag line here is, ‘Here everyone is.a Big Shot,” Schier added. “…We literally want anybody to be able to come in here and be introduced to the game of golf and just come out here and have fun and hit some golf balls.”
One of the leaders of Firestone Country Club said she is looking forward to her organization’s collaboration with BigShots Golf.
“I know our members are very excited to have the opportunity to golf through the winter,” said Kendle Deaderick, Club Manager at Firestone CC. “…It’s just been a plus for us. It’s an additional benefit.”
