(Liberty National GC)
In the wake of the announcement that the PGA of America will not hold its 2022 Championship at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J. because of the fallout from the violence at the U.S. Capitol on January 6th, the BetOnline sports and gaming site posted odds for potential host venues that could be named as the new site for the event. Liberty National GC in New Jersey was established as a 2-to-1 favorite, with Baltusrol GC (5/2), Southern Hills CC (3/1), Bethpage GC (4/1) and Congressional CC (5/1) all drawing low odds as well.
As further proof that the world’s appetite for gambling, and in particular sports-related gambling, knows no boundaries, it didn’t take long, after the January 10th announcement that the PGA of America would not hold its 2022 PGA Championship at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J. because of the fallout from the violence at the U.S. Capitol on January 6th (https://clubandresortbusiness.com/pga-ra-wont-have-major-tournaments-at-trump-properties/), for oddsmakers to offer action on which club would be granted the event as a substitute site.
BetOnline.ag, a gambling site based in Panama, posted these odds for new potential host venues (the positive number in the American Odds represents how much profit would be earned from a $100 bet on that site.)
2022 PGA Championship – Host Venue | American Odds | Fractional Odds |
Liberty National Golf Club | +200 | 2/1 |
Baltusrol Golf Club | +250 | 5/2 |
Southern Hills Country Club | +300 | 3/1 |
Bethpage Golf Course | +400 | 4/1 |
Congressional Country Club | +500 | 5/1 |
Aronimink Golf Club | +800 | 8/1 |
The Olympic Club | +1000 | 10/1 |
Valhalla Golf Club | +1200 | 12/1 |
TPC Harding Park | TBD | TBD |
Oak Hill Country Club | TBD | TBD |
The website explained that the opening lines for TPC Harding Park and Oak Hill Country Club were listed at 14/1 and 20/1, respectively, but both venues were currently “locked” pending an adjustment to the lines.
(It was not specified, but assumed, that Oak Hill is the club in Rochester, N.Y. that has hosted many major events, and not any other club with that name.)

Liberty National, in Jersey City, N.J. across the Hudson River from Manhattan, with a golf course designed by Tom Kite and Bob Cupp that features sweeping views of the New York skyline, has not hosted a major golf tournament since its opening in 2006. But it has hosted a steady succession of significant events, including The Barclays and The Northern Trust as part of The FedEx Cup Playoffs, The Presidents Cup and the inaugural Nexus Cup.
The Liberty National website includes a quote from PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem where he says, “I think it’s one of the most stunning settings for professional golf there is on the planet.”
When the PGA made its announcement about changing the venue for the 2022 Championship, PGA of America CEO Seth Waugh was quoted as saying, “We’ve had a number of places reach out already [to host the event]. We think we’ll have a bunch of options.”
The 2021 PGA Championship will be held at Kiawah Island in South Carolina.
