The property will continue to operate as a golf course for at least the next three years, and will then be reviewed on an annual basis.
Alvamar CC Changes Name to The Jayhawk Club
Through a licensing and branding deal with the University of Kansas, the Lawrence, Kan., property, which is the home course of the university’s golf programs, has changed its name and logo to feature the university’s mascot. The 20-year agreement allows the club to use KU’s registered marks and names for an annual fee of $120,000 for the first 10 years.

Hamilton, Ohio Golf Courses to Benefit from Closures
Weatherwax Golf Course in Middletown, Ohio and Vista Verde Golf Club in Liberty Township, Ohio both closed last year, and neighboring Twin Run Golf Course is lowering its rates as incentive for players to check out the course. The city of Hamilton has also purchased equipment from the shuttered properties to benefit both Twin Run and Potter’s Park Golf Course.
Salishan Spa and Golf Resort “Crafts Next Era”
Under new leadership, the Gleneden Beach, Ore., property recently completed a multimillion-dollar renovation that updated all 205 guest rooms and public spaces throughout the resort, including new furniture, paint and accessories. The resort is also enhancing its culinary experience, with a new chef and dining concept to be revealed in the coming weeks.
Oak Meadows GC Renamed, Renovated
The $16.8 million transformation of the public Addison, Ill., golf course, now named The Preserve at Oak Meadows, reduced the number of holes from 27 to 18 with improved stormwater management, greater water quality in Salt Creek, and enhanced habitat for fish and other aquatic species.
Tumwater Valley GC Focuses on Junior Golf Development
For the past three seasons, the First Tee program at the Tumwater, Wash., golf course has averaged 400 youth participants. The club now offers a weekly Junior Golf League, PGA Junior League, the Valley Golf Academy for player development, and the O Bee Junior Open Golf Tournament.
Clubhouse, Course Renovations Unveiled at Silver Creek Valley CC
The San Jose, Calif., property doubled the size of its first-floor kitchen, added both indoor and outdoor seating in the family dining area, expanded and renovated the bar area, and updated locker room lounges. The interior of the 32,500-sq. ft. clubhouse was repainted, and all common areas have new flooring, window treatments and furnishings.
CMAA Announces New Officers and Master Club Managers
Robert C. Shackamaxon CC Opens “Shack-Cade”
The Scotch Plains, N.J., club recently unveiled the game room, located on the lower level of the clubhouse, that features full-size air hockey and foosball tables, and a multi-cade with over 600 classics such as Pac-Man, Mario Bros., Donkey Kong, X-Men, and Tetris, and more. The room will also be the site of kids’ club events and arcade tournaments.
Hyatt Doubles Down on Wellness Properties
On a fourth-quarter earnings call, Hyatt CEO Mark Hoplamazian said, “We believe we will be able to extend and expand the brand in destination wellness resorts [and] in standalone spas.” Hyatt acquired three wellness resorts and a new spa brand in January, which it values at $375 million, though that sum includes improvements planned for the resorts in the next two to three years.
Lakewood (Colo.) CC Plans $1.5M Golf Course Upgrade
The restoration, designed by Gil Hanse, is expected to begin by the end of the summer and wrap up before the end of the year. Almost half of the 122-acre golf course’s holes will be reworked in some way to bring the course more in line with the original 1916 design by Donald Ross.
ClubCorp Reports Sixth Consecutive Year of Record Revenue
For 2016, ClubCorp’s revenue increased $35.6 million to $1.1 billion, up 3.4%. Same-store clubs revenue increased $18.8 million to $1 billion, up 1.9%, driven by increases in dues (up 3.1%) and food-and-beverage (up 2.4%), while new clubs opened or acquired in 2015 and 2016 contributed $51.3 million in revenue.

Shareholders to Vote on St. Johnsbury (Vt.) CC Sale
Firinn Golf Group has signed a purchase-and-sale agreement to take over ownership of the property, which opened in 1923 and will face bankruptcy if the sale does not go through. If the sale is approved, Firinn Golf Group plans “to create a casually upscale clubhouse that embraces the charm of Vermont, the history of the club, and modern amenities that are attractive to young and old alike.”
