The former owner of the property, which is set to be redeveloped into housing, is selling everything from bar stools to freezers, mowers, golf bags with clubs, hand carts for walking the course, and ball washers. The auction is scheduled for April 5.
The former owner of Southwick (Mass.) Country Club is selling off all the golf course and restaurant equipment now that he’s sold the land and buildings for a housing development, MassLive reported.
Auctioneers Aaron Posnik & Co. Inc. plan to sell 424 lots April 5 at 11 a.m. Interested buyers can inspect the goods that day beginning at 8:30 a.m., MassLive reported.
Going up on the auction block will be everything it took to run Southwick Country Club including bar stools, freezers, mowers, golf bags with clubs, hand carts for walking the course, nine Par Aide ball washers and 625 bags of new golf tees. See item details here.
Jason Fiore, of Fiore Realty Holdings, the new owner of the real estate, said the auction was ordered by longtime Southwick Country Club owner William Najam. Najam, 74, a Westfield attorney, sold the golf course February 22 to Fiore for $1.9 million, MassLive reported.
Fiore and his family plan a housing development on the 122 acres with 65 to 80 homes selling for $280,000 to $380,000. The Fiore purchase includes the building that once housed a clubhouse and the Candlewood Inn restaurant, MassLive reported.
Najam sold the course because there is too much competition from area courses and too few golfers are playing too few rounds of golf. Najam had at least a part ownership in the course since 1984, MassLive reported.
The town declined to exercise its right of first refusal and buy the property. Najam had given the town that right decades ago in exchange for a property tax abatement under an open space preservation program, MassLive reported.
