Mike and Fariel Winn will oversee the daily goings-on at Shandin Hills, the public golf course in San Bernardino, Calif., beginning June 1. Last week, San Bernardino City Council unanimously approved the five-year agreement. Per the pact, the city will use revenues generated by Shandin Hills to pay Local Golf Management, the Winns’ company, a flat monthly rate of $15,000 to run the 18-hole course, 18,500-sq.-ft. clubhouse/banquet hall, and maintenance facility. “Our intention is to get the golf course in way better shape,” says Mike Winn, “and start fixing up cosmetic stuff that’s been let go for a while, try to make the golf course mirror Arrowhead.”

“We thought it made great sense” to take over Shandin Hills, Mike Winn said by phone this week, The Sun/Southern California News Group reported. Arrowhead and Shandin Hills “are real close to each other so we can share equipment if need be, and we can do a membership program that involves both golf courses and complements both of us.”
“Shandin Hills is real well known in San Bernardino,” Winn continued, “and they have a real loyal following.”
A new course superintendent already has been hired, Winn told The Sun/Southern California News Group.
