Two men from St. George, Utah were charged with felony theft for stealing carts from various area courses and advertising them for sale online.
Two men in St. George, Utah were arrested on November 20 on felony theft charges for stealing golf carts from area golf courses, the St. George News reported.
Police officers made the arrests based on information obtained from a man who reported that he had recently purchased a golf cart that he had found posted in an online advertisement. The cart was found to be stolen and officers went to an address provided by the man for the alleged seller, Curtis Bryner, 19. The man told police he had paid Bryner $200 in cash, and also traded a 40-caliber pistol, in exchange for the golf cart.
While at Bryner’s address, police also interviewed an alleged accomplice, Cecil Tuua, also 19. In a statement written by St. George Police Detective Terrance Taylor in support of the arrest, the News reported, Taylor wrote that “We conducted interviews with the suspects… who confessed to having stolen golf carts at various locations in St. George.”
The golf cart that was advertised online and then sold for $200 and the pistol, the News reported, was stolen from Southgate Golf Club in St. George, according to Taylor’s report, and valued at $2,300.
After Tuua and Bryner consented to a search, the News reported, investigators found a golf cart inside the garage at the property that was found to have been stolen from a nearby apartment complex and was valued at $5,000.
A stolen flatbed single-axle trailer, with a reported value of $1,000, was also discovered parked in the driveway in front of the house. “The suspects stated they had found the trailer and had not stolen it, but also stated they thought it was possibly stolen,” Taylor wrote in his statement. “The suspects admitted they had used the trailer to transport stolen golf carts to their residence for storage.”
